2022 Player Outlook

In 2021, we saw that Urias has some pop in that bat, despite a smaller frame, but we just don't see it enough. His 25th percentile average exit velocity doesn't quite correlate to his 80th percentile max exit velocity. However, the upside here is despite the lower average exit velocity, he parked 23 long balls last season, thanks to a career-best barrel rate (9.3%) and launch angle (14.2 degrees) in 2021. He's going to be hard-pressed to beat last year's 23 home runs, but Urias makes plenty of contact, providing optimism that his .266 batting average after the All-Star break last season is sustainable in 2022. His home run total likely drops into the mid-to-upper teens this season, but he should hit around .255 with a handful of stolen bases.
