2023 Player Outlook
2023 Recap: Alzolay burst onto the fantasy scene out of relatively nowhere last year, posting 22 saves and a 2.67 ERA across 64 IP in 2023. He was excellent with his control, posting a 92nd percentile walk rate, and he has multiple pitches in his arsenal, including a nasty slider that posted a .194 BAA and 40.6 percent whiff rate. The wind in Wrigley can get nasty, but Alzolay generates a healthy number of ground balls, which has helped keep his home run numbers down.
2024 Outlook: The team brought in Hector Neris in the offseason, but Alzolay has the inside track to the closing role in Chicago, which should be pretty profitable in 2024. There's optimism for an increase in his strikeout rate, as generally speaking, a 13.4 percent swinging strike rate and 34.4 O-Swing rate will lend itself to an elevated strikeout floor. He's a solid closer to target in drafts, especially if his price slips a bit with Neris joining the bullpen.
