2022 Player Outlook

While Verdugo had a fine season and did a lot of things well, he wasn’t great in any particular category. Based on his above average 83.7% contact rate he should continue to hit for a relatively high batting average. Offspeed stuff continued to give him trouble (career .211 BAA) and surprisingly he batted just .228 against left-handed pitching last season. Verdugo was one of the centerpieces for the Red Sox in the Mookie Betts trade but unfortunately for the Sox it seems that he’s a very good and not elite player. Expect Verdugo’s 2022 production to mirror his 2021 season. What you’ve seen is what you’ll get, which isn’t bad.
