2022 Player Outlook

Jon Gray went 8-12 in 2021 with a 4.59 ERA, 4.22 FIP, 1.33 WHIP and a 9.5 K/9 for the Rockies last season. He has a lively fastball and perhaps when he's not pitching in Coors Field, he can use that velocity more to his advantage and not be afraid of putting the ball up in the jet stream that is the Colorado air. The Rockies chose not to keep Gray around, and Gray inked a deal with the Rangers for the next few years. The easy thing to point to is that Gray is no longer pitching half of his games in Coors Field, so that's a net-positive in and of itself. For his career, he has a 9.47 K/9 and 1.09 HR/9 on the road, compared to an 8.96 K/9 and 1.19 HR/9 at home. Simply leaving Colorado isn't going to unlock his inner Nolan Ryan or Cy Young, but he should provide quality strikeout numbers with an ERA in the mid-to-upper 3s.
