2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Right-handed veteran Michael Wacha signed with the Royals in December and could step right in as the team's No. 2 starter behind Cole Ragans. Over the past two seasons, between the Red Sox and Padres, Wacha has posted a combined 3.27 ERA with a 21.3% strikeout rate, 6.9% walk rate and 37.7% ground-ball rate.

2024 Outlook: With a reputation as a fly ball pitcher, he has kept his home runs down (1.14 HR/9 over his last two seasons) and that should help as Wacha now gets to throw in spacious Kauffman Stadium. Despite some recent shoulder issues, Wacha ended 2023 tossing consecutive seven-inning gems (two total runs allowed on nine hits and two walks with 13 strikeouts) and is at least healthy now as the Royals head into spring training.
