Tonight’s Strategy

I have three drafts left this season for baseball before my long March ends. Two of them are live auctions in NYC, one NFBC, the other, versus a bunch of industry people. I swore this season I would have no more than 10 teams, I ended up with around 27. Which is way down from last year’s 40-something. What can I say? I love this stuff.

We have a 10-game slate tonight with all the risk that goes with it this time of year. You must expect to take a zero here and there from here out, it happens. So, the thing to do is make sure you do NOT over expose yourself to one player. Last night I ended up with six lineups, even though I planned on two. Lucky I only had Melo in two of them. Lesson to be learned, play light.

So, with the clock ticking, and the album Last Dayz by Death Threat playing in the background, I bring you todays Position Coach article.

Point Guard

Yeah, we got the Nets again tonight who are a defensive plethora of great match-ups. So, in the spirit of playing the chalk, John Wall gets my call as numero uno facing a Nets team allowing the second most fantasy ppg to the PG position. Wall is averaging well over 40 fantasy ppg as of late, I would like to see a 50-spot here.

Isaiah Thomas for considerably less is the next best option if you don’t want to spend for Wall. The Suns are allowing the fourth most fantasy ppg to the PG position leaving the door open for Thomas to feast tonight.

Ricky Rubio is my late bullet pick tonight at PG facing a Lakers team allowing the third most fantasy ppg to the one. Rubio is putting up nice numbers averaging around 35 fantasy ppg.

The Nuggets are allowing the most fantasy ppg to the one, in an elite match-up Jeff Teague is looking mighty juicy. He scored over 40 fantasy points versus the Nets, who are a little better than Denver.

Tyler Ulis, this one is more about minutes than match-up. Bad match-up or not, he has two 30-spots and a 40-spot in his last four games.

If Malcolm Brogdon gets the Hawks who are allowing the sixth most fantasy ppg to the one. He benefits from one of the better match-ups on the Bucks side.

Shooting Guard

James Harden, no one at the position is better, and he also gets an elite match-up with the Pelicans allowing the eighth most fantasy ppg to the two.

Attacking the Nets, it is hard to argue playing Bradley Beal tonight. The match-up is sweet and he can drop a 40-spot like nothing.

Klay Thompson is the only Warrior I am digging tonight. The Kings are allowing the most fantasy ppg to the two, and he has two 40-spots in his last four.

Avery Bradley is back, and now on fire as well. He has back-to-back 30 fantasy point games, facing Phoenix? Why not another.

Buddy Hield has scored over 60 fantasy points in his last two games facing a Houston team allowing the sixth most fantasy ppg to the two.

Small Forward

I cannot see spending a fortune here tonight at SF, so Andrew Wiggins tops the list facing a Lakers team allowing the fifth most fantasy ppg to the three.

With the Nets allowing the most fantasy ppg to the three, Otto Porter, who makes me crave them freezer pops, has a reduced price now thanks to his last four games, I say this ends tonight with a 30-spot.

Marcus Morris is facing an Orlando team allowing the seventh most fantasy ppg to the three. He is more of a GPP play due to his inconsistent fantasy numbers, but offers nice upside.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is a player I will take a flyer on in an elite match-up like tonight. The Cavs are allowing a ton of fantasy ppg to the three, the question is, does he step up? I believe this is a safe 25-spot, maybe even 30.

Thabo Sefolosha, boom or bust, but gets a Bucks team allowing the fourth most fantasy ppg to the three.

Power Forward

I hate using Anthony Davis, but starting at center, facing a rockets team allowing the fourth most fantasy ppg, could spell the word 60-spot. If he doesn’t trip on his shoelaces and come out of the game.

Kevin Love is facing a Hornets team allowing the seventh most fantasy ppg to the four. The problem is he will either net you 40 fantasy points, or 14. But the match-up is right.

Willie Cauley-Stein is facing the Warriors tonight who defend the four terribly. He has been putting up 30-spots since Boogie left.

Marquese Chriss keeps getting it done for Phoenix. I rostered him last night with a smile and will do so again tonight. He has scored over 70 fantasy points in his last two, and is very cheap.

Amir Johnson, I am such a sucker for this guy who drops 8-spots now and then. In an elite match-up like this tonight, I have the gut feeling he comes out with a 30-spot. Play at your own peril, I do.

Center

I would be a bad analyst if I failed to make Karl-Anthony Towns the top play at center. The Lakers are allowing the second most fantasy ppg to the position and Towns has scored over 40 fantasy ppg in three straight. At his price, I would rather roster Harden.

Al Horford is where I would look to get my bang for my buck. He had a quiet spell but as of late is averaging over 39 fantasy ppg in his last five. I would rather get 37 or so here at this price, than 45 with Towns.

The player I currently have sitting in my main FD lineup is Ivica Zubac, whose name much like Jusuf Nurkic has to be looked at to spell. He is cheap, and has scored 29.1, 22.2, and 32.9 fantasy points in his last three. If you can get another 30-spot for under $5K, why would you not.
