Another day of mediocre match-ups here, so it looks like more GPP play for me once again. There are a few pitchers in the second tier of pricing you can use for cash, but my confidence level just isn’t all that high right now. Also, not much of a split slate today with just three early games, so we’ll keep it all on one sheet for you again today.

Drew Pomeranz, BOS – It’s been a series of ups and downs for the young lefty in his return to the American League, but he’s got a nice match-up here against a Yankees team that is struggling for consistency in its offense lately. They’ve posted a .324 wOBA over the past seven days, but rank just 25th in the league with a .308 wOBA against southpaws. If Pomeranz can keep the ball down, his 1.44 GB/FB should shine through against their 44.2-percent ground ball rate vs lefties.

Jose Quintana, CHW – Quintana’s last start against the Royals came in early June, a time when they were actually hitting well, and he held them to three runs over eight innings with 10 strikeouts. Now the Royals have posted a .276 wOBA with a .111 ISO and 25.1-percent strikeout rate over the past week, so my confidence level in the White Sox lefty is a few ticks higher.

Scott Kazmir, LAD – Not really a big Kazmire fan, but the numbers seem to line up pretty well for him today. Not only do the Phillies rank dead-last with a .281 wOBA against lefties this season, but they’ve been scuffling at the plate recently as well with a .291 wOBA and a 22.5-percent strikeout rate over the past week.

Jason Hammel, CHC – He was just activated off the bereavement list, so there’s obviously a slight concern about his mental make-up here. Prior to the leave of absence, he had allowed just one run over his last two starts (13 innings) so we’re looking for him to hopefully keep that momentum up. It helps that the Angels are posting just a .297 wOBA over the past week and have just a .403 slugging percentage in that span.

Jaime Garcia, STL – The lefty has had some trouble with run support lately as the Cardinals have scored just two runs in his last three starts, but he may not need a whole lot tonight against the Reds who have struggled at the plate recently with just a .308 wOBA and a .108 ISO. On top of that, they rank 27th in the league against lefties with a .300 wOBA and a 23.5-percent strikeout rate.

Ervin Santana, MIN – Santana is looking strong lately with four-straight quality starts and a 20:3 K:BB over his last 26.1 innings. Now he gets the Astros who not only have barely league-average numbers against right-handed pitching all year, but also rank dead-last in the league over the past week with a .267 wOBA. That awful number also comes with a 23.5-percent strikeout rate and a .097 ISO mark.

David Phelps, MIA – A true dart here as we’re just hoping for five innings out of Phelps who is still making his way back into the rotation after being in the bullpen all season. He catches a bit of a break here as the Giants are really struggling offensively with a .279 wOBA, a 21.7-percent strikeout rate and a .099 ISO over the past week.
