Deep in southern Virginia lays the sleepy town of Martinsville which is usually a quite town, except for a few weekends a year. The Cup cars tend to stir up the town and wake up the sleepy hamlet, as well as getting frustrations bubbling over during the course of the race. The tight confines of The Paperclip make the phrase rubbin’ is racin’ a reality and oft-used strategy to make passes come Sunday.
This is the shortest track of the schedule at just .526 miles per lap and very little banking in the turns means that this is also one of the slowest tracks, on average lap speed, as well. That doesn’t mean the racing isn’t exciting as you get 40 cars doing 500 laps in the tight confines and lap traffic needing to be navigated nearly from the jump.
With there being so many laps in the race, laps led dominator points are a great source of points and on FanDuel the laps completed will boost the scores quite a bit so be prepared for high money lines this week. Position differential is still gettable here as there has been a winner from all of the top-24 starting spots at one point or another. For playoff drivers that are in a winning position late in the race expect bump and runs to be prevalent in the closing laps just like they have been in each of the last few Fall races here.
