10-Team Leagues

Rafael Devers (3B – BOS): Devers is still criminally under-owned at just 63 percent. That’s hilarious. He was mentioned a couple weeks ago in the deeper-league section, but if you’re in a 10-team league he needs to be owned. He’s not even 21 years old and has shown an unbelievable adjustment to the big leagues. He’s slashing .356/.420/.699. You can expect the SLG% to come down a bit, but he is just mashing the ball. He’s hit seven homers since making his debut less than a month ago and will help your team down the stretch if you’re in need of power. Get this guy if you can!

Eddie Rosario (OF – MIN): Going to piggyback off James Grande with this selection, but there will be an additional player added for this section to compensate for the repeat. Rosario’s been mashing over the last two weeks. Since August 6, he’s hit five home runs and slugged a whopping .854. He hasn’t homered since the 12th of the month, but has nine hits in his last 21 at-bats. He’s seeing the ball well and coming in around 50-percent owned. If you’re looking for OF depth this late in the season, he’s worth an add.

Trevor Bauer (SP – CLE): If you need to find a source of K’s on the waiver wire at this point in the season, go get Bauer. Over his last four starts, he has 33 K’s in 28.2 innings of work. He boasts a 1.88 ERA over that span, but the downside is that he is still prone to the long ball, considering he surrendered 3 in his last start against Boston despite racking up 11 K’s. He’s about 63-percent owned, but he could be available in your 10-team league.

James McCann (C – DET): Need Catcher help? Give McCann a chance! Over the past week and a half (roughly), he’s slashed .367/.406/.500 with a .391 wOBA. He doesn’t collect many walks, but he hasn’t struck out much of his last few games either. He has a hit in six straight games and could keep this hot streak going. He’s around 35-45% owned depending on the site you play on.

12-Team Leagues

Cory Spangenberg (OF – SD): Spangenberg is about 35% owned and should be available in 12-team formats., but his ownership is steadily increasing. Since August 9th he’s slashed .351/.400/.784 for regression could be in line especially since he’s hitless in his last seven plate appearances. But he’s also a decent source of steals. He’s swiped two bags in the past week.

Jerad Eickhoff (SP – PHI): Eickhoff is tough to get a read on because he’s 30% owned on some sites and up to 50% owned on others. Over his last five starts, he has a 2.83 ERA with a 3.31 FIP. He’s not a great source of strikeouts. He has 25 over his last 28.2 innings of work, but the good thing about Eickhoff is he can keep the ball in the park. Sure the walks are high, but he limits the damage. He’s a good candidate for quality starts if your league utilizes that category. He may not get much run support because he pitches for the Phillies, but he’s been doing very well over the past month.

Jose Pirela (2B/OF – SD): James Grande mentioned Pirela in the August 9th Waiver piece but it bears repeating he’s worthy of being added. He’s about 13-25% owned so he’s probably still available in your 12-team league. Since August 7th he’s slashing .350/.447/.675 with a .407 BABIP.  The HR’s haven’t been there over the past seven days and he hasn’t stolen any bases recently, but he provides nice depth at 2B and OF for your team.

Deeper Leagues

Tucker Barnhart (C – CIN): It’s rare to find help at the Catcher position this late in the year and in deeper leagues. He’s about 15% owned and has seen his ownership rise steadily, but he should be there in deeper leagues. Since July 30th he’s slashing .275/.393/.412. He’s gone 0-for-12 in his last three games, but given the scarcity at the position he should be considered if you’re in need of help at the position.

Chad Bettis (SP – COL): Ya know… Why not? Take a chance! Bettis made his 2017 debut and he’s a great story to rally behind. Sure it came against the slumping/woeful Braves, but it was in Coors Field and he surrendered six hits in seven shutout innings. He had only 2 K’s, but the Rockies have a decent enough offense to provide run support. See where the story goes from here. Bettis could be a nice addition down the stretch. Worst case scenario? He’s a streaming option. He’s about 10-12% owned.

Mitch Moreland (1B – BOS): This is a bit of a dart throw because there’s plenty of depth at first base, but you could use Moreland at Utility. Since July 30th he’s slashed .320/.382/.580 with a .403 wOBA and .389 BABIP.  Boston’s offense has been rolling lately and you should want to get in on the action. Moreland is about 10-15% owned. On the season 40 of his 95 hits have been doubles or HR’s, hence his nickname around Beantown of “Mitchy Two Bags.”
