2024 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: At first glance, 2023 was disappointing for Greene, as many were expecting him to take a big jump after his 2022 campaign. Across 22 starts for the Reds, he posted a 4-7 record with a 4.82 ERA (4.25 FIP), 1.42 WHIP, 30.5 percent strikeout rate, and 1.53 HR/9. He spent time on the injured list for the second straight season, but his numbers prior to the injury were far better than when he returned. Prior to missing over two months, he posted a 3.93 ERA (3.56 FIP) with a 31.4 percent strikeout rate, and 1.35 WHIP.

2024 Outlook: His changeup hasn't quite developed yet, so he's mainly a fastball-slider guy, but he generates a ton of whiffs, hence the 30+ percent strikeout rate each of the last two years. He allows a lot of fly balls, so home runs will likely be an issue for him in Great American Ball Park, but the strikeout potential is elite with Greene (91st percentile in 2023), and he should get plenty of run support with this offense backing him. Health willing, this could be the year we see Greene take that next step, and any improvement with his changeup would make him that much more dominant. There's some injury risk with the hard-throwing right-hander, but he's worth the risk at his current ADP, especially if your first or second starter are average at best in that department.
