2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Like the Cardinals' team as a whole in 2023, Arenado underwhelmed for fantasy managers. His .266 batting average fell in line with his expected batting average, and he posted the highest ground ball rate (38.8%) in a season since 2018. His contact rate dropped for the third straight year, while his swinging strike rate increased for the third straight season as well. He's always been a bit prone to leave the strike zone, so as he is entering his age 33 season, questions will start to come up surrounding his offensive game. He was on a fine pace for the majority of the season, though once the calendar flipped August 1, the numbers tanked, dragging down the overall outlook on his season.

2024 Outlook: Arenado is still going to be drafted within the top 100 players, but with barely being inside the top 10 players at the position, there's a unique buying opportunity on Arenado in 2024. He was the Arenado we know and love for more of the season than he wasn't, and the Cardinals shouldn't be as much of a disaster as they were this year. Whether or not you draft Arenado likely comes down to roster construction. If you want power (25+ HR) and batting average (.270-.280), you'll likely be looking at Arenado. However, he will not give you more than five stolen bases, so if you end up needing speed, you may look to someone else around Arenado's price point. Arenado should bounce back in 2024, something to the tune of his 2022 season, but maybe a batting average closer to .270 than the .293 mark he posted that season.
