2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Availability is the best ability, and Goldschmidt has been as steady as they come in that department. Aside from the shortened 2020 season, Goldy has appeared in at least 151 games in eight straight seasons. From a fantasy standpoint, while 2023 wasn't his best year by any means, he still produced across the board, albeit not up to the levels of years past. His 23.4 percent strikeout rate represented the third straight season that number increased, and it was his highest mark since 2019, aided by slight increases in his O-Swing% and swinging strike rate. For the first time since 2011, his zone contact rate dropped below 80 percent, and his 75.4 percent contact rate overall was his lowest since 2017. His numbers fell off in the second half, and maybe his age is starting to catch up to him a bit, but his barrel rate was on right par with years past, and his 50.7 percent hard hit rate was the highest of his career!

2024 Outlook: Goldy will be 36 in September, so he's not getting any younger, but he should still be a steady, reliable fantasy asset. His 2024 season should slot somewhere between his 2021-2022 and 2023 seasons, somewhere along the lines of a .275 average, 25-30 home runs, 6-10 stolen bases, and if the Cardinals offense performs up to its ability, he should exceed 90 runs and 90 RBI, too.
