2022 Player Outlook
Altuve posted a career high launch angle in 2021 at 15.7 degrees while maintaining similar batted ball numbers. So, he hammered 31 home runs last season with 83 RBI, 117 runs scored and five stolen bases, not to mention a .278 batting average. Altuve offers a solid stat line at the second base position, but his days of being a stolen base machine are over. He has just 13 stolen bases over the last three years, not to mention 11 caught stealing attempts in that time. He'll need increased power numbers to maintain fantasy value, but like other Houston Astros, be wary of drafting Altuve on name recognition as well. This isn't 2015-2018 Altuve, where his stat line was nearly impossible to find elsewhere. You can find other second baseman that can give you 25+ home runs with a .280ish batting average. To Altuve's benefit, hitting atop the Houston order is lucrative, especially in runs scored.
