Welcome to the DFS Watch List for NFL Week 8!
Before we get into the player breakdowns and discuss what the Playbook had to offer you last week, I want to talk about blocking out all the noise you hear on Twitter, Reddit or wherever you spend your time away from the site. One of the things I've always said is to find an analyst or web site that speaks to you; one that you feel you can trust. If that happens to be me and the rest of the Fantasy Alarm team, then great. If not…well…then be very careful because if you're reading this, you're paying for a subscription and if your trusted analysts are somewhere else, you could be getting into a lot of differing opinions which could confuse the matter for you.
Last week when I set up the Watch List and spoke about it on the Fantasy Alarm Show on SiriusXM, one of the things I mentioned was that everything about this week screamed pay down at QB and RB and pay up at WR. I had elite wideouts in both the Watch List and Playbook and had a variety of pay-downs at the QB and WR position. But then what did I do when I built my lineups? I let the noise in and screwed everything up. I listened to what some friends in the industry were saying and before I knew it, I was squeezing in guys like Patrick Mahomes and Derrick Henry into my lineups and using guys like Darnell Mooney and Rashod Bateman to fit them in.
What the heck was I thinking?
All of my research, all of my game breakdowns, everything was pointing me in the right direction and like an idiot noob, I went the other way. While many of you who used the Playbook stuck to the plan and won money, those of you who followed my lead in the Example Lineups and you lost. That's on me and I am truly sorry about that. Believe me when I say it will NEVER happen again. NEVER. You have to block out the noise. It's ok to investigate what others are saying because you may find a nugget or two you may not have uncovered, but overall, you cannot let it change your plans completely. Believe me, I am still kicking myself for this.
OK, time to forgive myself and move on…
So what exactly did last week's Playbook deliver? As always, we like to check in to ensure we remain on the right path.
Scoring The Playbook Week 7
The Tight End whisperer is back (although technically, I never left)! Coupled with dominating wide receivers, quarterbacks and defenses, the Playbook & Dart Board delivered again for the #FAmily faithful.
Here are the highlights:
- The average value of quarterbacks, wide receivers, tight ends & defenses was an unprecedented 3X+
- Tight ends averaged more than 12 points and a 2.9X Value
- Wide receiver analysis had four of the top five scorers with Cooper Kupp (40.6), Mike Evans (31.6), AJ Brown (30.3) and Terry McLaurin (28.2)
- Evans and Tampa DT scoring a whopping 21 points elevating the FAmily to victory in the late window.
- The Dart Board had three BULLSEYES with more than 3X Value.
- Here is the best lineup possible using only the Playbook & Dart Board players:
For any newcomers this week:
“If you give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day. If you teach a man to fish, he’ll eat for a lifetime.”
We take this adage to heart when it comes to playing NFL DFS. The Fantasy Alarm Playbook isn’t just about handing you a list of players and a lineup to use each week. It is designed to help you learn to be a better DFS player. It’s about teaching you the process used in selecting which players to scout and, eventually, which ones to use.
Therefore, we will begin each week with the Weekly NFL DFS Watch List which is designed to keep tabs on marquee names, chalk plays and, of course, the weekly bargains who may not see the same coverage and exposure. This piece will be continuously updated throughout the week, based on the most recent news and injuries which means you may see a name or two removed as we get closer to kick-off. You may also see a few late-week additions who pique our interest for some reason too, and by the end of the week, this Watch List will eventually become your Playbook. Again, it’s about teaching you the process.
Also remember, the DFS Watch List focuses on the Sunday Main Slate. We cover Thursday, Monday and Sunday Night Football via Showdown slate coverage.
IMPORTANT WEEK 8 NOTE:
I am taking off Wednesday through Monday (going Phishing in Vegas) and will not be handling the Playbook this week. My ride-or-die, Jon Impemba, will be tasked with the responsibilities this week. I am leaving you in extremely capable hands, so do not worry. Jon has asked me to start the Watch List for him, but he will be working on the updates during the week. Sorry to be leaving you, but I need to recharge the batteries, so I can come back and we can crush the second half of the season together!
Now let's get to work…
