Luis Sardiñas (B) Headshot

Manager Buck Showalter said Sardinas is a candidate to serve a utility role next season, Rich Dubroff of PressBoxonline.com reports.

The Orioles are in need of a utility man with Ryan Flaherty heading to free agency, and Sardinas could fill that role in 2018. He signed a minor-league contract with the team in October after finishing last season with Triple-A Norfolk. Throughout his career, the 24-year-old has appeared in multiple games at first base, second base, third base and shortstop. Sardinas hit just .163/.226/.163 in a 29-game stint with the Padres last season before being designated for assignment.

Dan Bailey Headshot

Owner/general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday that Bailey is tending to a hamstring injury at the moment, Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

A groin concern forced Bailey to the sideline for four games earlier this season. In three outings since he returned, he hasn't had much problem with extra points, connecting on eight of nine, but field goals have been a different story. While he's made both kicks from less than 30 yards, he missed a pair from 50-plus yards Sunday against the Giants. The ailment may force the Cowboys to be more aggressive in enemy territory, perhaps whittling down the number of potential attempts from distance.
6:18 pm (EST)
Miles Plumlee Headshot

Plumlee will shift back to a bench role for Tuesday's game against the Cavaliers, Michael Cunningham of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Plumlee has started the last five games, but hasn't been overly effective and has averaged just 5.4 points and 4.2 rebounds across 17.1 minutes. With Dewayne Dedmon (leg), John Collins (shoulder) and Mike Muscala (ankle) all still out, Plumlee should still see a slightly elevated role, though the Hawks are set to experiment with Tyler Cavanaugh in the top unit instead. That sends Plumlee back to a reserve role.

T.J. Oshie Headshot

Oshie (upper body) won't travel for Thursday's game against Boston, though he may practice Friday, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports.

It's discouraging that Oshie's already been ruled out for games Tuesday and Thursday, but there's hope that he'll have a clear timetable for his return Friday. The American winger is currently tied with James Neal (VGK), Brad Marchand (BOS) and Clayton Keller (ARI) for 30th in points among NHL wingers with 10 goals and 13 assists through 28 games, meaning his continued absence hurts a great deal of fantasy owners.
6:15 pm (EST)
Seth Frankoff (R) Headshot

Frankoff signed a contract for 2018 to play for the Doosan Bears in South Korea, the Korea Herald reports.

Frankoff was released by the Cubs at the end of August, after making just one appearance for the big club. He threw 2.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out two batters. The Mariners picked him up off waivers shortly after, but released him so he could play in South Korea.
6:15 pm (EST)
Kyrie Irving Headshot

Irving (quad) is listed as probable for Wednesday's game against the Nuggets.

Irving was held out of Monday's contest with a left quad contusion, but it was clearly nothing serious, as he should be back Wednesday following just a one-game layoff. As long as Irving doesn't experience any uptick in discomfort during shootaround or pregame warmups, he should rejoin the starting lineup at point guard, with Marcus Smart heading back to the bench in the corresponding move. Terry Rozier and Shane Larkin should see decreased minutes as well.
6:12 pm (EST)
Al Horford Headshot

Horford will be rested for Wednesday's game against the Nuggets.

Horford doesn't appear to be dealing with an injury, so it looks as though the Celtics will simply build in a day of rest for the big man in advance of a Friday/Saturday back-to-back set. With Marcus Morris (knee) sidelined, expect Aron Baynes to remain in the starting five, with Daniel Theis and Semi Ojeleye both in line for increased time off the bench.
6:11 pm (EST)
John Wall Headshot

Wall (knee) has officially been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Nets.

Wall came into Tuesday with a questionable designation, but with the Wizards currently headed into a back-to-back set, they decided it was in Wall's best interest to remain sidelined at least one more contest. He's slated to make his return to the lineup Wednesday against the Grizzlies, though additional word on that should come following the team's morning shootaround. With Wall out once again Tuesday, Tim Frazier and Tomas Satoransky should see extended run at point guard, though it will likely remain a timeshare between the two.
6:08 pm (EST)
Tyler Cavanaugh Headshot

Cavanaugh will start Tuesday's game against the Cavaliers, Michael Cunningham of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

In a bit of a surprising decision, the Hawks will give Cavanaugh his first start of the season as Miles Plumlee shifts to the bench. Cavanaugh, who began the year on a two-way contract, has worked his way into a consistent rotation spot of late, averaging more than 23 minutes per game over the last five contests. In that span, the 23-year-old holds averages of 8.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
6:07 pm (EST)
Robert Woods Headshot

Head coach Sean McVay said Monday that Woods (shoulder) is in line to return Sunday at Seattle, Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Woods indicated he was approaching the end of his recovery from a left shoulder injury with a limited showing in practice last Friday, earning a questionable designation in advance of Sunday's showdown with the Eagles. He proceeded to take part in a pregame workout but eventually was deemed inactive for a third consecutive contest. There's a chance Woods will shed his injury designation entirely with a full session Wednesday, but more important is his listing on the final practice report of the week.
