Dylan Carlson launched his first career grand slam in the Cardinals' win over the Marlins on Wednesday.

Carlson was hitless in his first three plate appearances before coming up with the sacks juiced against Zach Pop in the top of the ninth inning. He ran the count full before depositing one over the right-center field wall. All three of Carlson's hits this season have been home runs, and he's now gone deep in back-to-back games.

Trea Turner went 3-for-4 with a stolen base on Sunday against the Dodgers.

Turner was just about the only bright spot in the Nationals lineup on Sunday with three base hits. He moved into scoring position with his first stolen base of the season in the third inning. The 27-year-old star shortstop is 7-for-23 to begin the year with two home runs and the one steal.

Kenley Jansen struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning to record his second save on Sunday against the Nationals.

Fantasy managers got a scare on Friday when it Corey Knebel recorded the save for the Dodgers. Manager Dave Roberts was just giving Jansen a day off to manage his workload as the 33-year-old veteran closer looked sharp on Sunday. Jansen was averaging 93.5 MPH on the cutter and topped out at 94.4. He'll be just as effective as long as he maintains that velocity, something his workload management will no doubt play a part of.

Z. McKinstry - 3B

Zach McKinstry went 2-for-3 with a home run, double, one run scored, and three RBI against the Nationals.

McKinstry would provide all the offense the Dodgers needed on Sunday with a two-run double off of Max Scherzer in the second inning. The 25-year-old would later tack on an insurance run with a solo blast off of Tanner Rainey in the seventh. McKinstry had just one hit over his previous 16 at-bats coming into this one as he's filled in for Mookie Betts (back). He'll likely revert back to a bench role with limited playing time once Betts returns.

Max Scherzer allowed just one run on three hits and one walk with five strikeouts Sunday in a loss against the Dodgers.

Scherzer did a good job of holding a high-powered Dodger offense in check with just one run allowed on the day. That run came in the second inning on a double by Zach McKinstry that would score Max Muncy from first base. Scherzer averaged just 92.8 MPH on the fastball after averaging 94.4 in his first start. It could be something to monitor going forward. The 36-year-old right-hander is set to face the Diamondbacks in Washington on Friday.

Clayton Kershaw tossed six scoreless innings with five hits allowed and struck out six batters in a 3-0 win against the Nationals on Sunday.

Kershaw needed only 86 pitches to get through six innings while keeping the Nationals scoreless on the day. The 33-year-old left-hander scattered five hits but did not walk a batter as he threw 54-of-86 pitches for strikes. Kershaw went primarily to his slider and generated eight whiffs on the pitch, ending his day with a 33 percent CSW rate (called strikes plus whiffs). He's set to face the Padres on the road in San Diego his next time out.

Mark Melancon tossed a perfect ninth inning on Sunday to record his fifth save of the season against the Rangers.

Melancon got Anderson Tejeda to strike out looking for the first out followed by two groundouts to lock down his MLB-leading fifth save of the season. The 36-year-old veteran right-hander is a perfect 5-for-5 on save attempts and has not allowed a run with only one hit and no walks issued so far.

Manny Machado went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the Rangers.

Machado added an insurance run in the ninth inning with a solo blast off of Rangers closer Ian Kennedy for his second round-tripper of the season. The ball came off the 28-year-old's bat at 105 MPH as he pulled it 341 feet to left. Machado has started 9-for-37 in the early going with two home runs and has been caught stealing on his only attempt.

Grisham led off the fourth inning with a home run off of Mike Foltynewicz for his second in three games back from the injured list. It would be the only run San Diego would need after holding the Rangers scoreless. The 24-year-old outfielder is now 5-for-11 to start the year.

Mike Foltynewicz allowed one run on two hits and three walks with three strikeouts over seven innings Sunday in a 1-0 loss against the Padres on Sunday.

Foltynewicz bounced back from a rough first outing with seven solid frames against the Padres despite throwing just 55-of-91 pitches for strikes and generating only four whiffs on the day. The only damage on the scoreboard against the 29-year-old right-hander came in the fourth inning with a solo home run by Trent Grisham. Foltynewicz could have some deep-league streaming appeal next weekend with a matchup at home against the Baltimore Orioles.

Michael Kopech tossed 2 1/3 perfect innings of relief on Sunday in a 4-3 loss against the Royals.

Kopech is quickly becoming one of the best middle relievers in baseball with another dominant showing. The 24-year-old right-handed flamethrower relieved Dylan Cease in the fifth inning and threw 18-of-26 pitches for strikes over 2 1/3. Kopech topped out at 98.5 MPH on the fastball and generated seven whiffs in the short outing. He's now thrown 6 1/3 scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts to just two walks.

Kyle Zimmer struck out two batters in a clean 10th inning on Sunday to record a save against the White Sox.

After closer Greg Holland pitched a scoreless ninth inning in a tie game, Zimmer was called on to attempt the save in the tenth and locked it down, striking out two batters in the process. Zimmer likely doesn't figure into the team's plans for traditional ninth inning saves.

Whitt Merrifield went 2-for-4 with one RBI, one walk, and one steal Sunday against the White Sox.

Merrifield singled in the third inning and would attempt to swipe a bag but was tagged out by Danny Mendick. He was successful on his next try in the 10th inning for his first of the year. It was the 32-year-old second baseman's fourth multi-hit game of the season as he's now hitting .393 in the early going with three home runs and the one steal.
