Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that there are indications that right-hander Jameson Taillon will be the next Pirates player to be traded -- and that it may happen in the next day or two.

The Pirates have already dealt Joe Musgrove and Josh Bell this offseason, so it wouldn't be a major surprise to see them shed Taillon as well as they attempt to perpetually rebuild. The 28-year-old righty missed the entire 2020 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but is expected to be healthy and ready to go for the start of the 2021 campaign. He owns a 3.67 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 419/117 K/BB ratio over 466 innings in his big-league career. The Yankees are one team known to have interest in acquiring Taillon.

Alex Bregman (hamstring) tweeted Wednesday that, "if the season started today I’d be good to go."

He was replying to a tweet by Brian McTaggart of MLB.com, who had written a story about the third baseman's hamstring injury. Bregman dealt with a right hamstring injury last season and tweaked it again while working out this offseason, so the Astros haven't let him work out on the field during spring training yet. However, it doesn't sound like this is a long-term concern at this point.

Cody Bellinger (shoulder) said Wednesday that he'll be "basically a full-go" in workouts next week.

He also believes that he's "way ahead of schedule" in his recovery from surgery to repair a dislocated right shoulder, will be able to play in Cactus League games by mid-March and that he'll be "100 percent ready" to play on Opening Day. Bellinger, of course, infamously suffered the injury while slamming forearms with Enrique Hernandez in celebration following a home run in the World Series. He noted that he "will be a handshake guy for the rest of my career, for sure." Once a shoulder has dislocated, it is vulnerable to repeat occurrences, so there's still some injury risk with Bellinger even if he's feeling good come Opening Day.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Dustin Fowler. The end result of an elbow sprain is often Tommy John surgery, although it's not clear at this point whether Davis is headed down that road.

Fowler has fallen off the radar since being a top-100 prospect, but he's still just 26 and is under team control for several years. He will compete for a starting job in the Pirates' outfield and has some deep league appeal should he win a job.

The deal could potentially max out at $4.1 million if Gonzalez hits all of his incentives. The super utility player is projected to bounce around all over the field for the Red Sox as he usually does. Gonzalez is coming off an ugly showing in 2020, but Boston is paying a modest price and he should be useful.

Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports that the Pirates have acquired Dustin Fowler from the Athletics for cash considerations.

Fowler had been designated for assignment by the A's earlier this week. The 26-year-old is a worthy roll of the dice for a Pirates club with razor-thin outfield depth, as Fowler is a former top-100 prospect and is still pretty young. He batted .277/.333/.477 with 25 home runs and 12 stolen bases at the Triple-A level in 2019, although he did play at a launching pad of a home park in Las Vegas. Still, Fowler might actually have a shot to take on some deep league fantasy relevance.

Shohei Ohtani (elbow) said that he topped out at 97 mph in a live batting practice session Wednesday.

Ohtani also felt that he was locating his pitches well during the session. Angels manager Joe Maddon has also been talking up how good Ohtani has looked early on during spring training. It's refreshing to hear after the right-hander was limited to just two appearances in 2020 because of a flexor strain. Ohtani has a chance to move swiftly up fantasy draft boards with a strong showing this spring.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Wednesday that the club hopes Daz Cameron (elbow) can taking batting practice "in the coming days."

Cameron is slightly behind at the beginning of spring training after he had to leave his winter ball team early due to a sore right elbow. However, Hinch noted that the outfielder is "increasing his activities" and he shouldn't need much time to catch back up. Cameron is likely to begin 2021 back in the minors after the Tigers brought in Robbie Grossman and Nomar Mazara.
