Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reports the Steelers are "planning to sign" free agent QB Dwayne Haskins.

Haskins is meeting with the coaching staff on Thursday. He will be signed if "all goes well." That, of course, can't be taken for granted with Haskins coming off his disastrous two-year tenure in Washington. The Steelers have needed an upgrade at the backup quarterback for years, but it is highly unclear if Haskins is actually better than Mason Rudolph. We would hope Haskins wouldn't be the final signal caller who is added behind a rapidly-declining Ben Roethlisberger.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports the Jaguars are shopping LG Andrew Norwell.

It's been an uneventful three years for Norwell since the Jags made him one of the league's highest-paid guards. His play has slipped from its All-Pro level in Carolina as the Jags' offense has gone nowhere. Headed into his age-30 campaign, Norwell has also missed time with injury two of the past three years. Due $12 million in 2021, it will probably be a tough trade market for the veteran interior lineman. Norwell's release would free up $9 million in space for the Jags, a number that increases to $12 million if he is designated a post-June 1 cut.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports the Giants are shopping RG Kevin Zeitler.

Headed into the final year of his contract, Zeitler has been just fine in New York, which isn't what you want from a guard making $12 million per season. With Zeitler now on the wrong side of 30, we doubt there will be much of a trade market for him in a year where the salary cap is declining. To that point, La Canfora reports rival teams expect the veteran guard to be released, a move that would clear $12 million in cap space for the G-Men.

Steelers re-signed C J.C. Hassenauer to a one-year, $700,000 contract.

An exclusive rights free agent, signing this deal was Hassenauer's only NFL option. The 26-year-old was forced into heavy snaps down the stretch last season, making a handful of November/December starts. Hassenauer probably didn't acquit himself well enough to get in the running to replace a retiring Maurkice Pouncey.

Chiefs FB Anthony Sherman has announced his retirement from the NFL after 10 seasons.

A free agent, 32-year-old Sherman was not expected to be re-signed. A 2011 fifth-round pick of the Cardinals, Sherman spent the past eight years as Andy Reid's lead blocker in Kansas City. Sherman hangs up his cleats with 94 career touches, just four of which came in 2020. His high points were 2013 and 2017, where he handled the ball 20 times a piece. Despite that lack of official touches, being an NFL fullback is a brutally grinding business, even on limited snaps.

Terry McLaurin says he played through two high-ankle sprains in 2020.

We knew about one, which is difficult enough to play through. The timeline, or whether both injuries were to the same foot, is unclear. Coupled with Alex Smith's pop-gun presence under center, it would explain why McLaurin's production dramatically tailed in the second half of the season. Despite the injuries, the 25-year-old still managed to confirm himself as one of the best young receivers in football. He should once again push for WR1 relevance in 2021, though it is unknown who will be under center for the Football Team.

Both players were exclusive rights free agents. Shelton played 75 2020 snaps. Howard missed the entire season with a torn meniscus.

Speaking Thursday, Broncos coach Vic Fangio confirmed the team would like to add competition for Drew Lock.

“Until Drew proves to be the next great quarterback like the ones Denver has been used to in years past, or ones certain teams around the league have, we’re going to always try and bring in competition," Fangio said. "But I have confidence Drew can continue to improve.” It's the latest, strongest indication Lock won't be getting any free 2021 lunches after his dismal sophomore campaign. It's quite possible Lock is replaced outright, with no meaningful competition. Lock has mouthwatering tools but has given close to zero indication he knows how to harness them at the NFL level.

It's a salary cap maneuver, as 29-year-old Johnson is a perfectly pine punter, placing 14th in net punting average last season. The Eagles will assuredly go bargain basement at the position for 2021. Johnson will be near the head of the line for punter workouts/calls.

Seahawks released WR Josh Gordon.

It's a formality with a player who didn't suit up in 2020 because of continued suspensions. Gordon was finally set to return in December before getting banned yet again. The supremely-talented 29-year-old has made only 28 appearances since 2014. He announced last week he was signing on with the "Fan Controlled Football league," where Twitch users can call plays with real-life players. Gordon turns 30 next month. His long, strange NFL trip would seem to be at an end.

All three were exclusive rights free agents, so their choices were to sign or pick up their ball and go home. A 2018 UDFA out of Penn State, Cabinda was ninth in offensive snaps amongst fullbacks last season. We would assume he will maintain a role under hard-nosed new coach Dan Campbell.

Broncos GM George Paton said he "wants" restricted free agent RB Phillip Lindsay back for 2021.

Patton said they will be applying a tender on Lindsay but the level hasn't been determined. Another team could slide in and sign Lindsay if the Broncos get loose with their evaluation, but the most likely scenario is Lindsay returning as Melvin Gordon's sidekick. He battled various injuries in 2020, ultimately landing him on injured reserve.

Morstead set career lows in yards per punt (43.1) and longest punt (58) in his age-34 season last year. He plans to return and prove that his down season was solely injury related. Morstead's release is a reminder that the Saints' offseason will be full of transactions given their salary cap situation. He's played his entire career in New Orleans.
