Merkley had four goals and 13 points in 19 games with Assat. Merkley was acquired from Arizona in the Taylor Hall trade and he had a goal and an assist in four games with the Devils. Merkley was selected in the first round, 30th overall in 2015 and has yet to make any impact, or even much of a dent, in the NHL.

Okposo has missed the Sabres first two contests with the injury. The bottom-six forward left practice early on Tuesday and has been on the sidelines since. “We’re hoping he gets back in the next few days,” coach Ralph Krueger said. “It could be day-by-day or it could be three or four.” Okposo has no fantasy value at this time.

Binnington made 20 saves on 24 shots and got pulled after two periods of play. He finished his night with a .833 save percentage. He started the game off on a good note by not allowing any goals in the first, but then gave up four goals in the second period. Three of the goals in the second were all scored within five minutes. Ville Husso came in relief for Binnington, but allowed an additional four goals in the third that sealed a big loss for the St. Louis Blues.

Parayko’s four shots on goal made up a fifth of all the attempts the Blues had in this matchup. The team managed to have 21 shots on goal, none of which found their way to the back of the net. Parayko played 22:34 in a heavy defensive game, as the Colorado Avalanche completely dominated the game from the second period onwards. Parayko is still looking for his first point this season and will have an oppportunity to do so when the Blues play the San Jose Sharks next Monday.

Grubauer stopped all of the 20 shots that he faced in this matchup and came out of this game with his first win of the year. This was a stark improvement from his previous performance against the Blues this past Wednesday, in which he allowed four goals and ended the night with a .875 save percentage. Grubauer also kept the Blues scoreless on all four of their power play attempts. He put up a solid individual performance and the entire team’s dominant performance helped them find the momentum they were looking for to start the season.

MacKinnon notched a goal and two assists in a dominant victory against the Blues. This included picking up his first point of the season by getting the primary assist on the first goal of the game scored by Gabriel Landeskog in the second period. Later in the third, he picked up his first goal of the year and another assist to cap off a phenomenal night for the Avalanche. MacKinnon’s goal was assisted by Cale Makar, who also posted a three point night in this matchup.

Carter Hutton didn't look great in last night's game against the Caps, so the Sabres went with Ullmark tonight. Buffalo got enough offense to win yesterday, but they didn't get enough saves. Tonight, they got enough saves, but they couldn't solve Capitals rookie goaltender Vitek Vanecek more than once. Vitek Vanecek turned aside 30 of 31 shots in Friday's 2-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

The 25-year-old made his NHL debut in this game and he looked pretty comfortable. It's nice to see that the Caps can win a low-scoring game with such an inexperienced goaltender. Washington is going to continue rolling with two young goalies in Vanecek and Ilya Samsonov, but veteran Craig Anderson is waiting on the taxi squad if either player falters. So far so good for Vanecek. He will only be worth an add in standard fantasy leagues if he takes over as the starter ahead of Samsonov, who didn't look as good in his first start against Buffalo last night.

Rasmus Ristolainen found the back of the net in Friday’s 2-1 loss to the Washington Capitals.

Ristolainen’s wrister through traffic found the back of the net just 31 sseconds into the third frame and that goal tied the score, 1-1. Unfortuantely for the Sabres, it’s the only offense they could find on Friday night. The Buffalo defender finished the game with a plus-1 rating, three shots on goal and four hits in 20:51 of ice time. This was his first point of the 2021 season. Ristolainen can be an effective daily fantasy option on some nights.

Wilson intercepted a pass at his own blue line before sliding the puck over to Jakub Vrana, who opened the scoring for the Capitals early in the second period. The rugged forward then scored the go-ahead goal in the third frame with a perfect wrist-shot from the circle. Wilson finished the night with a plus-1 rating, one shot on goal and four hits in 18:44 of ice time. These were his first two points of the 2021 regular season.
