Cabrera was left off the initial Opening Day roster after testing positive for COVID-19 at the beginning of summer camp, but he has since recovered and stands to see a lot of action once the Cardinals finally resume play on Friday night. The 23-year-old left-hander has experience as a starter and St. Louis is going to be missing Carlos Martinez for a stretch, so we might see Cabrera in the rotation at some point.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Mets have engaged in talks with free agent right-hander Trevor Williams.

Puma notes, however, that these specific negotiations were led by former Mets general manager Jared Porter, who was officially fired early Tuesday morning following an ESPN report that he had sent lewd, unsolicited messages to a female reporter back in 2016. It's unclear whether the Mets' pursuit will continue post-Porter. Williams, 28, was cut loose by the Pirates in November after struggling to a 6.18 ERA across 11 starts in 2020.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that free agent reliever Kirby Yates is in agreement with the Blue Jays.

Yates met with Blue Jays officials at the team's spring training complex in Dunedin, Florida on Tuesday and apparently came away impressed. The 33-year-old right-hander made only six appearances with the Padres last season before requiring surgery in August to remove bone chips from his pitching elbow, but he was maybe the most dominant closer in baseball in 2019, working to a brilliant 1.19 ERA and 101/13 K/BB ratio in 60 2/3 innings while tallying a league-high 41 saves. If his health cooperates, he should take over as the new primary saves man for Toronto in 2021. There is no word yet on the financial details of the agreement.

Rangers signed RHP Hunter Wood to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Wood was designated for assignment by the Indians at the end of summer camp in late July and spent the rest of the year at Cleveland's alternate training site. The 27-year-old right-hander holds a respectable 3.32 ERA and 81/30 K/BB ratio in 86 2/3 career innings (10 starts, 56 relief appearances) at the major league level.

Diamondbacks signed LHP Ryan Buchter to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the deal would pay Buchter $925,000 if he makes the major league roster. The southpaw spent the 2020 season in the Angels and Yankees organizations, and he'll now compete for a bullpen spot with Arizona during Cactus League play.

Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto told reporters on Tuesday that Mitch Haniger (back, core) is a "full go" for spring training.

Haniger didn't play in 2020 and missed most of 2019 due to a wide variety of injuries, but Dipoto said that the outfielder looks "terrific" and is going to be ready for the Cactus League. The last time he was healthy, Haniger hit .285/.366/.493 with 26 homers, eight steals and 93 RBI in 2018. If he can stay healthy, he could be a fantasy sleeper for those who have forgotten about his productivity or are worried about him staying healthy.

Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto told reporters that Chris Flexen will have a spot in the Mariners rotation.

Dipoto also said that Marco Gonzales, Justus Sheffield and Yusei Kikuchi will also be members of the rotation to begin the year. That leaves Nick Margevicius, Justin Dunn and top prospect Logan Gilbert battling for one -- or possibly two, if Seattle goes with a six-man rotation again -- of the remaining spots. Flexen was signed to a two-year, $4.75 million contract in December after posting an impressive 3.01 ERA and 132/30 K/BB ratio in 116 2/3 innings for the Doosan Bears of the KBO in 2020. He hasn't shown that same level of success in the majors, however, as he was roughed up in his brief time with the Mets.

Craig Mish of SportsGrid reports that the Red Sox are still open to moving outfielder Andrew Benintendi.

Mish names the Marlins among several teams who are interested, contrary to a previous report. The club has the proper prospect depth and a need in right field, so it's a good fit on the surface. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com was told by a rival executive last week that a Benintendi trade appeared imminent, but the momentum has seemingly slowed over the past few days. Still, Benintendi looks like the player who could benefit from a new environment. The 26-year-old was limited to just 14 games last season and disappointed with a .774 OPS in 2019.

The 26-year-old Paulino was once a top-100 prospect, but he's dealt with an injuries and also served a PED suspension. He last pitched with the Blue Jays in 2019 and holds a 5.48 ERA over 16 appearances in the majors. The Phillies are willing to see what he can do.

Pirates acquired C Endy Rodriguez from the Mets in a three-team trade.

The Mets gave up Rodriguez in order to land Joey Lucchesi from the Padres. Rodriguez, 20, hits from both sides of the plate and holds a promising .276/.389/.452 batting line through his first 66 games in pro ball. He's seen some time at first base and in the outfield, but obviously he'd be a lot more interesting if he sticks behind the plate. He's a name worth following for Pittsburgh.

Mets acquired LHP Joey Lucchesi in a three-team trade with the Padres and Pirates.

As reported on Monday, Lucchesi is headed to New York while the Mets will send prospect C Endy Rodriguez to Pittsburgh. The southpaw only appeared in three games with the Padres last season and appeared to be blocked going into 2021, but he posted a 4.14 ERA in 56 starts between 2018-2019. He also has options remaining and will be under team control through 2024. While Lucchesi could push Steven Matz for a rotation spot during spring training, he's mostly a wait and see option in fantasy leagues.
