Jason Beck of MLB.com said Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire "strongly hinted" that the Tigers could promote top prospect Casey Mize to make his MLB debut Sunday.

"I think you guys have a pretty good feeling about it," Gardenhire told reporters wondering if Mize, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, could be the Tigers' starter for their series finale against the Reds. Teams have now passed the threshold for keeping an extra year of control over their young players, giving the Tigers little incentive to keep Mize under wraps for much longer. The 23-year-old owns a 2.71 ERA, 0.967 WHIP and 120/26 K/BB ratio over 123 minor league innings and is a must-add in all but the most shallow of fantasy leagues if he does indeed get the call Sunday.

Richie Martin recently broke his left hamate bone and needs surgery, per Orioles GM Mike Elias.

Martin missed all of 2020 after fracturing his right wrist during summer camp workouts, and now he'll miss the early part of spring training in 2021 due to left wrist trouble. The 26-year-old might have been in the running for the starting shortstop gig in Baltimore before this injury -- and before the team signed Freddy Galvis.

Swihart spent a little time at the Rangers' alternate training site in 2020 before getting released in August. He did not appear in a major league game. The 28-year-old former top prospect is a career .243/.301/.355 hitter.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network hears that the Braves have "kicked the tires" on a trade for Orioles slugger Trey Mancini.

Baltimore seems open to trading just about anyone as long as it means cutting costs, and Mancini did just avoid arbitration with the O's on a $4.75 million salary for 2021, but this could be a tricky trade to pull off given that the 28-year-old missed all of 2020 while recovering from surgery to remove a malignant tumor from his colon. He put up an excellent .291/.364/.535 batting line with 35 home runs and 97 RBI over 154 games in 2019.

MLB.com's Jon Morosi reports that Kolten Wong's market is "heating up."

There's been a whole lot of recent movement on the infield market and now Wong is finally starting to gain some traction as the dominoes fall. Morosi notes that the Cardinals, Tigers, Mariners, Rays, Cubs, and Phillies are "among the teams to check in on" the 30-year-old second baseman, who became a free agent back in late October when St. Louis declined his $12.5 million club option for 2021. Wong has won back-to-back Gold Glove Awards while slashing .279/.358/.396 with 12 homers and 29 steals in 201 games since the beginning of 2019.

According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Mets are the "favorites to land" top free agent starter Trevor Bauer.

There are conflicting reports about what kind of offer the Mets have on the table to Bauer, but Nightengale has been told that it carries an average annual value approaching what Gerrit Cole got last winter from the Yankees. Cole's deal was for nine years, $324 million -- so a $36 million AAV. Bauer will probably sign on a term of five or six years, though he could score an AAV around the $34-35 million range, assuming Nightengale's reporting is accurate. The 30-year-old right-hander won the 2020 National League Cy Young Award after registering a 1.73 ERA, 0.795 WHIP, and 100/17 K/BB ratio across 73 innings (11 starts) last summer with the Reds.

According to Jose F. Rivera of Wow Deportes, the Tigers have signed free agent catcher Wilson Ramos.

It's reportedly a one-year, $2 million agreement, and there will probably be some incentives. Ramos struggled both offensively and defensively last season with the Mets, who made the easy decision to decline his $10 million club option for 2021 back in late October. But the 33-year-old former two-time All-Star would seem to be a worthwhile gamble for the rebuilding Tigers and fills a big immediate need for them behind the plate.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network confirms that free agent infielder Tommy La Stella has signed with the Giants.

Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area first passed along word that an agreement was close, and ESPN's Jeff Passan says it'll be a three-year deal. La Stella, 31, batted .289/.356/.471 with 21 home runs in 135 games (549 plate appearances) for the Angels and Athletics between 2019-2020 and projects to play both second base and third base for San Francisco in a sort of tri-platoon with Donovan Solano and Evan Longoria. It's a nice real-life fit, and it could be a good fantasy fit too if the designated hitter remains a thing in the National League.

According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Reds and Phillies are "now focusing" on Didi Gregorius.

Gregorius, 30, is one of the last remaining established everyday shortstops on this suddenly fast-moving free agent market and should do quite well for himself given that the Reds and Phillies -- and maybe some other clubs -- still consider that position an area of need. He batted .284/.339/.488 with 10 home runs and 40 RBI over 60 games (237 plate appearances) last season for Philadelphia while rating pretty well defensively. Jon Heyman of MLB Network hears that Gregorius is asking for something around two years, $30 million.

ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that the Twins have signed free agent shortstop Andrelton Simmons to a one-year, $10.5 million contract.

Simmons was known to be an offseason target of the Phillies, Reds, and Blue Jays -- among others -- but there wasn't any chatter about Minnesota being involved until Passan's tweet about the agreement. The 31-year-old will rightfully take over at shortstop in 2021 for the reigning American League Central champions, with Jorge Polanco likely shifting to second base and Luis Arraez probably moving into more of a utility role. Simmons, a four-time Gold Glove Award winner, slashed .297/.346/.356 across 127 plate appearances last summer with the Angels before opting out in September because of concerns about COVID-19.

Tommy La Stella is close to a deal with the Giants, per Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area.

La Stella registered a strong .281/.370/.449 batting line in 55 games between the Angels and Athletics in 2020, after being named to his first career All-Star team in 2019. The soon-to-be 32-year-old can play second base or third base for San Francisco and should be a nice left-handed addition to the Giants' lineup if this indeed gets done. The infield market is really moving now with the scheduled start of spring training fast approaching.

Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports that the Red Sox "have had some talks" with Mitch Moreland about a possible reunion.

Moreland became a free agent back in early November after the Padres declined his $3 million option for 2021. The 35-year-old got off to a great start last summer with the Red Sox before getting traded to San Diego ahead of the August 31 deadline and struggling mightily down the stretch. He could now maybe return to Boston as the left-handed-hitting part of a first base platoon with the right-handed-hitting Bobby Dalbec.

According to FanSided's Robert Murray, the Brewers continue to listen to trade offers on Josh Hader.

Murray adds, however, that the asking price remains "overwhelming" for the 26-year-old left-handed reliever, who owns a dominant 2.54 ERA, 0.858 WHIP, and 380 strikeouts in 223 2/3 career major league innings. Hader just avoided salary arbitration with Milwaukee earlier this month on a one-year, $6.675 million contract. As it stands right now, he is under the club's control through the end of the 2023 season.
