The Braves elected to pay Teheran a $1 million buyout rather than pick up his $12 million option. The 28-year-old's 4.66 FIP and 5.26 xFIP last season didn't super his 3.81 ERA, though he's beaten both of those estimators in each of the last seven seasons. As a capable (if unexciting) starter who is still on the right side of 30, he should generate a fair amount of interest this winter.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that the Mariners have shown interest in free agent right-hander Joakim Soria.

Soria's market has picked up as of late, and as Morosi notes in his tweet, every team in the AL West has checked in on the free agent reliever. The Blue Jays also have known interest, as have the Yankees. The 36-year-old was solid in 2020 with a 2.82 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 1.25 WHIP over his 22 1/3 innings last season with a 24/10 K/BB ratio. If he was to sign with Seattle, he could very well battle Rafael Montero for the closing gig.

Cubs signed RHP Shelby Miller to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Mark Feinsand of MLB Network reports he'll earn $875,000 with $600,000 in performance bonuses possible. The right-hander opted out of the remainder of the 2020 season after signing a minor league contract with the Brewers that winter. A former top prospect, Miller has struggled to stay healthy and has been horrible on the mound when he has taken the bump with an ERA of 9.15 in 24 appearances the last two years for the Diamondbacks and Rangers. He'll compete for a spot on the Chicago pitching staff over the spring.

Reds general manager Nick Krall told reporters that there was no truth to the rumors that Luis Castillo would be traded to the Yankees.

[The rumors] are completely false,” Krall said. “We intend to have [Castillo] as a member of our rotation for 2021.” Rumors of Castillo joining the Yankees started on Saturday when Jim Bowden of The Athletic noted that the two teams had talked, and Hector Gomez reported that a deal between the two clubs are done. Jeff Passan of ESPN quickly shot down the transaction, and now the Reds GM has doused the fire further. It wouldn't be a surprise if the Yankees added another starter, but it doesn't appear to be Castillo.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that Anibal Sanchez and Julio Teheran will both be working out on Tuesday in Miami.

As Heyman notes, both are free agents. Sanchez has recently been linked to the Phillies, while Teheran's market has been (unsurprisingly) quiet. A strong workout from either hurler would go a long way in securing the veteran right-hander's a contract, similar - if not the exact situation - to Corey Kluber and the Yankees.

Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the Yankees would like to bring back Brett Gardner.

Gardner would seem to be superfluous for the Yankees, but all 13 of his seasons have come in pinstripes and it would appear both parties are interested in continuing the relationship. The club declined Gardner's $10 million option for 2021 back in October, and the 37-year-old might be looking at a modest salary and role if he does return to the Bronx.

Carlos Martinez allowed three runs on four hits with five strikeouts and one walk over six innings Saturday in his final start for Aguilas Cibaenas in the Dominican Winter League playoffs.

Martinez struggled early, allowing three runs -- including back-to-back homers -- in the opening frame, but wound up retiring 18 of the final 20 batters he faced to complete his last offseason outing before spring training. The 29-year-old righty compiled a disastrous 9.90 ERA, 2.10 WHIP and 17/10 K/BB ratio across 20 innings and was limited to only five starts during the shortened 2020 season due to COVID-19 and an oblique injury. He’s slated to open the 2021 campaign in the Cardinals’ Opening Day rotation and offers some late-round appeal for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues given his extensive track record over the last decade.

Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports the Red Sox have re-signed LHP Martin Perez to a one-year, $4.5 million deal, which includes a $6 million team option for the 2022 campaign.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic was the first to report that the two sides were close to an agreement. Per Cotillo, the deal also includes a $500,000 buyout for the 2022 season and will be made official once Perez passes a physical. The reunion comes after the Red Sox declined his $6.85 million option back in November. The 29-year-old veteran southpaw's performance has fluctuated over the last few years, but he delivered a respectable 4.50 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 46/28 K/BB ratio across 62 innings (12 starts) during the truncated 2020 campaign. He's back for another stint as an innings-eater and will provide some valuable back-end depth for the Red Sox' starting rotation next season.

Jon Morosi of MLB.com reports that free agent reliever Brad Hand has drawn interest from the Astros, Blue Jays and Mets over the last 48 hours.

Hand has reportedly been discussing multi-year deals with several potential suitors in the wake of Liam Hendriks' massive three-year, $54 million deal with the White Sox. There was also a report from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, which was later corrected, that he was closing in on a two-year deal with the Mets earlier this week. He’s also been linked to the Dodgers earlier this offseason, but it’s unclear if they’re still in the mix at this point. The 30-year-old southpaw recorded a pristine 2.05 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, and 29/4 K/BB ratio over 22 innings, while also tallying a league-leading 16 saves with Cleveland last season.

Odorizzi remains among the many starting pitchers on the Twins' radar screen this offseason. The odds of a reunion appear to be increasing after a pair of potential suitors in the Yankees and Mets both made moves to bolster their starting rotations last week. He’s also been linked to Blue Jays, Red Sox, Giants, Angels and Rays as well. The extremely durable 30-year-old righty had made at least 28 starts in six straight seasons before three separate injured list stints limited him to just four starts during the truncated 2020 campaign. He’s been an extremely valuable member of the Twins’ starting rotation, compiling a 4.11 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 352/126 K/BB ratio across 337 innings (66 starts) over the last three years.

According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Padres “remain engaged” in talks with free agent reliever Trevor Rosenthal.

Acee notes that the Padres final offer to bring back former closer Kirby Yates fell short of competing offers, so it’s unlikely they’ll be able to match the asking price for Rosenthal this offseason. There’s finally been some movement on the relief market after electrifying righty Liam Hendriks landed a three-year, $54 million free agent contract from the White Sox earlier this week. Yet, it doesn’t seem like the 30-year-old flame-throwing righty, who registered a microscopic 1.90 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 38/8 K/BB ratio across 23 2/3 innings with the Royals and Padres last season, is close to making a final decision.

According to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet, the Blue Jays are one of several clubs interested in free agent right-hander Joakim Soria.

The Blue Jays have been rebuffed by several free agents already this offseason, but they're still casting a wide net and looking to bolster several areas of their team. In addition to Soria, they are also known to have interest in relievers Brad Hand and Kirby Yates. The Athletics, Astros, Rangers and Angels are also known to be interested in Soria. The 36-year-old hurler posted a 2.82 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 24/10 K/BB ratio over 22 1/3 innings. Whichever reliever they ultimately bring in, could potentially supplant Jordan Romano and wind up with the ninth-inning gig.

Rodriguez, 29, spent the 2020 season playing for the Orix Buffaloes in Japan where he slashed .242/.299/.445 with 13 homers, 41 RBI and a 74/20 K/BB ratio across 83 games. He played exclusively at first base in 2020, but also has experience at third base and the corner outfield as well. He'll add organizational depth for the Tigers.
