Topi Niemela was named the best defenseman of the 2021 World Junior Championship by the IIHF directorate.
Niemela led all blueliners with eight points (two goals, six assists) in seven games, while helping Finland capture the bronze medal on Tuesday against Russia. He tied for seventh overall on the tournament scoring list. The 18-year-old defender was selected in the third round (64th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
