It's now official, Noah Dobson will be making his Stanley Cup Playoff debut in Game 6 against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Islanders' roster sheet flipped back-and-forth prior to puck drop on whether Dobson would play or not. The official word has now come in, with the rookie making his debut as the Islanders stick with 11 forwards and seven defensemen. He'll be replacing the injured Adam Pelech. Sep 17 7:56 pm (EST)

The Winnipeg Jets have reportedly signed Sami Niku to a two-year contract extension.

There were rumors Niku asked for a trade out of Winnipeg but he denied that earlier this week. The two-year extension will pay the Finnish blueliner an average of $725,000. Niku is a former Eddie Shore Trophy winner, awarded to the AHL's defenseman of the year. He has some offensive upside, but his defensive liabilities are what has kept him from landing a full-time spot with the Jets.

Mike Hoffman remains an unsigned unrestricted free agent and he is expected to be patient.

"Very patient," agent Rob Hooper said Thursday. "Mike has been one of the most consistent goal scorers the last six seasons and the last two were his best. More importantly, Mike, like every great scorer is willing to be patient and look for the right opportunity." Teams have been trying to sign him to bargain contracts and he has held firm on his perceived value with the belief that teams will eventually circle back and up the ante. Hoffman could wait for teams to find more cap space in December or January depending on LTIR situations. That could make Boston, St. Louis or Edmonton options. Pierre LeBrun noted that in the meantime, a team like Florida or Nashville could decide to up their offers.

Tampa Bay has officially announced the signing of Luke Schenn to a one-year contract.

As previously reported, the deal is worth $800,000. The contract was reported to be agreed to back on Oct. 9 during the first day of free agency. Schenn had one goal, two assists, 23 penalty minutes and 83 hits in 25 games with Tampa Bay during the 2019-20 season. He also picked up two assists, 18 blocks and 34 hits over 11 postseason outings when the Lightning won the Stanley Cup.

Tampa Bay has confirmed the signing of Pat Maroon to a two-year contract.

As previously reported, the deal comes with an average annual value of $900,000. The contract was initially reported to be agreed to back on Oct. 9 at the start of free agency, but the team didn't make it official until today. "He's a good teammate," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "He knows his role, so he's knows the minutes he's going to get. I'm a big believer in giving guys roles and make sure they all know what they are, and he knows his. He's got character and he is a character, so it's kind of two good attributes to have. Really good team guy." Maroon had nine goals, 23 points, 71 penalty minutes and 104 hits in 64 games last season. He also had one goal and five assists in 25 postseason matches en route to winning the Stanley Cup.

Alexis Lafreniere wasn't included on the roster for Canada's initial World Junior selection camp ahead of the 2021 tournament.

However, Lafreniere hasn't been completely ruled out as a participant. "[Rangers GM Jeff Gorton] was certainly open-minded to the idea but hoping that his player would have the opportunity to join the NHL team in New York, as of now actually, to begin skating with the club," said Hockey Canada chief executive officer Tom Renney. "I've indicated to him that I would circle back within about 10 days to see how things are sitting and what things look like for [Lafreniere] joining this camp and beyond. At this point in time, that's where it stands right now, respecting that they have a job to do, too. I'm sensitive to the fact that we'll give them time to get their feet under them as well, as an organization with [Lafreniere]." He can join Team Canada in the bubble for the tournament on Nov. 16 in Red Deer or Dec. 13 in Edmonton. Lafreniere, who was the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, is expected to occupy a top-nine forward spot for the Rangers this coming season.

Dallas GM Jim Nill intends to keep in touch with Stephen Johns, as the team monitors the situation.

Nill said he spoke with Johns three weeks ago and is meeting with his therapist. The 28-year-old defenseman played in 17 games with Dallas during the regular season after coming back from post-traumatic headaches. Johns appeared in just four postseason contests because he didn't feel comfortable playing.

Dallas GM Jim Nill hopes to have a contract worked out with RFA Roope Hintz soon.

Nill said that negotiations have been ongoing with Hintz and the forward's representatives. Hintz is a restricted free agent following the expiration of his entry-level contract. He generated 19 goals and 33 points in 60 games with Dallas last season. Hintz also had two goals and 13 points in 25 postseason outings. Afterward, it was revealed that he suffered a fractured ankle and a hip injury during the playoffs.
