Almirola finished fifth in the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond International Raceway Saturday night.

The surprise performance of the night belonged to the No. 10 team at Almirola. He started in the Top 10 and raced there all night. The Stewart Haas Racing veteran raced among the leaders all night in this second race of the Chase. He picked up valuable playoff points in all three stages of the race, and collected his second Top-5 finish of the season. With sixth- and fifth-place finishes to start the Chase, Almirola is looking good to advance in the playoffs.

Harvick finished second in the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond International Raceway Saturday night.

Harvick would start from the pole and lead 40 laps for the night. His No. 4 Ford wasn't the strongest car on track most of the race, but he would run inside the Top 5 all evening at the Richmond short track. Over the closing 30 laps Harvick would begin reeling-in the No. 18 Toyota, but he would fall just under a second short at the finish line. It was his 20th Top-5 finish of the season.

Busch won the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond International Raceway Saturday night.

The Joe Gibbs Racing star would have to overcome starting deep in the field, However, that would not keep Busch from methodically picking his way forward. By stage 3 Busch was at the front and in complete control. He would lead 92 laps and hold off a closing Kevin Harvick to cross the finish line first. It was his seventh victory of the season, and he sweeps both Richmond races for 2018. Busch earns a spot in the next round of the Chase on the strength of his 50th-career win.

Harvick won the pole for the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond International Raceway Friday afternoon. He turned a fast lap of 121.880 mph.

Harvick wasn't impressive in the early rounds of knockout qualifying, but he would come on strong in round 3. The Stewart Haas Racing star would edge Denny Hamlin to claim the top starting spot for Friday night's race. It was Harvick's third pole of the season, and 24th of his Monster Energy Cup Series career. He'll be a top contender to win the Federated Auto Parts 400.

Roush Fenway Racing will hire Newman to drive the car currently shared by Trevor Bayne and Matt Kenseth, according to a source familiar with the deal. Roush Fenway Racing has scheduled a press conference Saturday afternoon, ESPN.com reports.

Newman made it clear last weekend that he would not be returning to Richard Childress Racing next season. His fans would not have to wait too long to find out where the 40-year-old driver was heading next. Sources have placed him in the No. 6 Ford of Roush Fenway Racing in 2019. Roush has yet to confirm this, but they have called a driver announcement press conference for Saturday afternoon at Richmond.

Keselowski was fastest in Happy Hour practice for the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond International Raceway Friday. He turned a fast lap of 120.224 mph.

The hottest driver in NASCAR picked up the pace in Friday's second, and final practice at the Richmond oval. Keselowski topped the scoring pylon after the final hour, and edged Martin Truex Jr. for the fastest lap of the session. The Penske Racing star hasn't won at Richmond since the 2014 season, but everything he's touching is turning to gold right now. Keselowski will challenge for the win in Saturday night's Federated Auto Parts 400.

Busch was fastest in opening practice for the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond International Raceway Friday. He turned a fast lap of 121.190 mph.

First practice would see Busch blow away the field in his No. 18 Toyota Camry. The Joe Gibbs Racing star laid down the only lap in excess of 121 mph. He beat out Aric Almirola for the fastest lap of the session. Busch was the spring winner at Richmond, and will look to sweep the track for the season in Saturday night's Federated Auto Parts 400.

Menard and the No. 21 Menards/Aquafina team battled back from early-race adversities to finish 10th in Sunday's South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, woodbrothersracing.com reports.

Menard would struggle with the handling on the No. 21 Ford for much of the race, and ran mid-pack for a long time. The team would continue to work on the car and improve it over the course of the afternoon. The broken action of the late laps, and several restarts helped. Menard picked up 14 spots at one point over a 10-lap stretch. He held onto a Top-10 spot over the final two restarts and cashed in at the checkered flag with his sixth Top 10 of the season.

Newman and the No. 31 Liberty National team earned their second-straight Top 10 with a ninth-place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon, ryannewman.com reports.

Although Newman didn't qualify as well as he would have liked, the team's car improved over the weekend, and he had good long-run speed which helped. The RCR veteran earned the team's second-straight Top 10 and eighth Top-10 finish of the season with his ninth-place after NASCAR overtime in Vegas. Newman remains 17th overall in the driver point standings after the South Point 400.

Busch would have to overcome several obstacles to finish seventh in Sunday's South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, kylebusch.com reports.

Busch looked poised to improve his car over the day and challenge for the win at the end of the South Point 400. However, things would go south with a bad pit stop on lap 112. One tire change would come up one lug nut short, putting Busch right back on pit road the next lap to secure all nuts. He would fall off the lead lap, and battle much of the remainder of the race. Busch spun through the infield grass on lap 233 causing some splitter damage to the No. 18 Toyota. The JGR star would not give up and peddled hard to finish seventh by the end of the race. Busch slips to second-place in the Chase standings as a result.

Almirola earned his 11th Top-10 finish of 2018 and his second Top-10 in 11 career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series starts at Las Vegas with his sixth-place finish in Sunday's South Point 400, stewarthaasracing.com reports.

Although it didn't come easy, it was a great way to kickoff the Chase for Almirola and the No. 10 team. The veteran driver bounced in-and-out of the Top 10 all afternoon at the Las Vegas oval. His timing was perfect at the end though, and that would pay off. Almirola used the multiple caution periods over the final laps to shore up and finish inside the Top 10. It snapped a three-race Top-10 drought for the SHR driver, and Almirola now sits ninth overall in the Chase standings after one race.

Harvick crashed and finished 39th in the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon.

It was a tough ending to the opening race of the Chase for the Stewart Haas Racing star. Harvick would lead laps and race among the leaders until lap 147. His No. 4 Ford would blow a tire going into turn 1, and collect the No. 20 Toyota of Erik Jones into the outside wall. Both cars would be severely damaged and retired to the garage for the race. The DNF was Harvick's fourth of the season, and he tumbles to fourth in the Chase standings as a result.
