2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: It was a highly anticipated follow-up season to his 2022 NL Cy Young campaign. It didn’t go well. While he stayed on the mound for 184.2 innings over 28 starts, the K/9 dropped, the BB/9 jumped, the ERA skyrocketed, and the HR/9 nearly doubled. Not great Bob. He’s nothing if not durable and that’s saying something for his cohorts in the Marlins’ rotation, but 2023 showed the downside of that.

2024 Outlook: Alcantara is perhaps the most innings-eating option in the Marlins’ rotation coming into 2024. Him getting back to the Cy Young numbers isn’t expected but being somewhere around halfway between 2023 and 2022 numbers should be in his wheelhouse. He’s never been a huge strikeout guy but getting over 8.0 K/9 is doable as is an ERA back in the 3.60 range.
