2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: In the first half of the season, Cronenworth was hitting for power, but not for average. In the second half of the season, he flipped the script, hitting for a better average, but the home runs dissipated. His quality of contact numbers dropped, and in fact, his barrel rate and hard-hit rate have dropped each of the last three seasons. He continues to be an excellent bat-to-ball guy, but his 2023 season was cut short due to a right wrist injury. Opposing pitchers continue to give him more breaking balls each year, as he hasn't had as much success against these offerings compared to fastballs. He's susceptible to pitches low and out of the zone, which likely explains why opposing pitchers give him a healthy dosage of non-fastballs.

2024 Outlook: So long as his wrist is fully healthy, Cronenworth should bounce back in 2024, though I'm a bit concerned about his power production in the beginning of the season, as it can take some time with hand/wrist/thumb injuries for hitters to get back to their usual selves. However, he's locked into an everyday role, but there's some risk with Cronenworth in 2024. A safe projection for him should be a .240-.250 average with 12-15 home runs and a couple of stolen bases and given that he's going outside the top 400 picks on average, he's a low-risk target later in drafts.
