2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: The Guardians are fortunate to have one of the most valuable assets a baseball team can have - a dominant lockdown closer. It's only been a short amount of time, but Emmanuel Clase has blossomed into one of the most lethal relievers in baseball, posting a 2.00 ERA with a 0.96 WHIP in his first four seasons. Clase has now led the American League in saves and games finished in each of the last two seasons, has made two all-star teams, and won the Mariano Rivera American League Reliever of the Year award.

2024 Outlook: Reports are the Guardians are open to offers on the All-Star closer who may be developing some chinks in his armor after his 2023 3.22 ERA is a far cry from the combined 1.33 he posted in 2021-22. Clase also blew more saves (12) in 2023 than he did in his entire career prior to this season (9). Is Clase still a dominant closer or are his best years already behind him? Stay tuned.
