Seattle Mariners

The Mariners are in a great spot this afternoon, as they are up against James Shields, who is a favorite gas can to pick on. Last season Shields gave up .388 wOBA to lefties, along with 2.82 HR/9 to lefties, while giving up 1.44 HR/9 to righties. Those numbers are so bad, I could almost hit a home run off of him, so, this is the spot you want to attack. This season he has given up 16 earned runs in five starts and has allowed 13 walks. This is a prime spot for the lefties on Seattle, along with some of the righties. Robinson Cano, Kyle Seager, Daniel Vogelbach and Nelson Cruz is who you should be looking to target. That stack isn’t overly expensive, and you should be able to fit them into most lineups.

Colorado Rockies

It might be obvious to point out the Rockies since they are playing at home, but let’s dive into why. Today they are up against Tyson Ross, who admittedly, is off to a solid start. This season he is giving up a .320 wOBA to lefties and a super low .194 wOBA to righties. BUT, last season, he gave up a .338 wOBA to left-handed hitters, and a .410 wOBA to righties. Clearly, his numbers from this season are due for some regression, and now that he is in Coors Field, a good spot for that to happen. If we go off of his numbers from last season, you want to roster either lefties or righties. They are very expensive, but Charlie Blackmon, Nolan Arenado, Trevor Story, and DJ LeMahieu all make great options, but also look at David Dahl or Noel Cuevas for some savings.

Houston Astros

The Astros are up against Nick Tropeano, who got off to a nice start this season, but it was up against the Royals. Then in his next game, he faced the Red Sox and gave up five earned runs in five innings. I wouldn’t take too much stock into that start vs the Royals, and the boom, as soon as he is up against a good offense, he gets shelled. I would say the Red Sox and the Astros offense are comparable since they are both in the top seven for runs scored. With the Astros, it all really comes down to salary and who you can fit into your lineups. The lefties for Astros will have the platoon advantage against Tropeano, so look at Brian McCann, Josh Reddick, Marwin Gonzalez, and Derek Fisher for some savings.
