Life as an alternate on the PGA Tour has to be rough. You have to travel to a tournament and try to prepare yourself mentally and physically to perform even though you may not know until Thursday morning if you’re actually going to tee off or not. I mean, it still beats working for a living, but I think the uncertainty would wear on you.

Life as an alternate for FantasyAlarm’s PGA DFS coverage is much easier. While I miss putting together the PGA DFS Playbook and Optimal Lineups each week, it’s always a pleasant surprise when they make the call to the bullpen for a right-hander, if I may mix my metaphors. Also, it gives me time to prepare for the start of the WNBA season, which is only 24 days away.

This week I have the pleasure of tackling the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow. Quail Hollow has hosted this tournament since 2003, though it took 2017 off to host the PGA Championship. The course underwent some major renovations to prepare for the PGA Championship, including three redesigned holes. While course history will still play a factor here, we should probably put slightly more weight on the last two years.

Quail Hollow is consistently one of the longest and toughest courses on the PGA Tour. Last year, only two of the top 12 players at the Wells Fargo Championship finished outside of the top 75 in Club Head Speed on Tour. On such a tough course, guys who can get from tee to green consistently are at a premium, and you have to take advantage of the par fives.

This is a pretty strong field, but there are a lot of question marks up top, including some really good players like Justin Rose, Paul Casey and Sergio Garcia who are making their first start (at least in an individual event) since missing the cut at The Masters. It’s hard to trust those guys or Jason Day, even though no one would be surprised if one of them won this tournament. On the other end of the spectrum we have Rickie Fowler, who will almost certainly make the cut, but he never seems to deliver when he is one of the frontrunners. I probably won’t play Fowler outside of cash lineups, but I won’t blame anyone who feels differently.

MY ONE & DONE PICK FOR THE WEEK IS TONY FINAU

Good Luck!
