OVERLAY ALERT: Play Fantasy Golf on FantasyAces.com for the British Open NOW!

Most of time, the challenge of fantasy golf is finding which cheap players will have a big week. There is always a Tom Gillis or Johnson Wagner who comes out of nowhere to have a big week, and obviously if you can identify those guys you will have an advantage over everybody else. That is the case again this week, but I found identifying those players was less difficult than deciding which expensive players to spend on.

There are a lot of really good players in the field, and separating them can be extremely difficult. Jim Furyk is fifth in the world golf rankings, and 26 players cost more than he does on DraftKings. Even after you eliminate guys who have struggled lately like Adam Scott, Jason Day, Justin Rose, Phil Mickelson and Martin Kaymer, you still have a lot of strong options to choose from. One player I am not playing this week is Jordan Spieth.

Spieth is trying to become the first player since Tiger Woods to win three majors in a row. He is probably capable of that feat, but I just have a hard time banking on a 21-year-old to win three straight majors. If you are looking for another reason to avoid Spieth, he has finished T36 and T44 in his only British Open starts. He will probably win one eventually, but I doubt it happens this week.

Tiger Woods probably won’t win it either, but he costs far less than Spieth (especially on DraftKings) and he has quite a history at St. Andrews, the host of this year’s British Open. Woods won twice there and finished T23 there in 2010. There are some courses where Tiger plays so well you cannot count him out no matter how poorly he is playing. Augusta is one of those places, and St. Andrews is another. Tiger may not be a great tournament play, but at the very least he should make the cut, making him a solid cash game play.

Ross Fisher39506800Fisher was a great British Open play even before his T7 at the Scottish Open last week. He has finished T35 or better in 11 of 13 starts this year and he finished T37 at St. Andrews in 2010.
Kevin Na37506800He has five top-10s against two missed cuts this year. He finished T27 at St. Andrews in 2010.
Sergio Garcia52509500His track record at St. Andrews is as solid as anyone's, as he finished T14 in 2010, T4 in 2005 and T36 in 2000. He is a great cash game play.
Hideki Matsuyama52008500Has finished T23 or better in nine consecutive events, including The Masters, PLAYERS Championship and U.S. Open.
Rickie Fowler6,5009700He won THE PLAYERS Championship and the Scottish Open, and he finished T14 at the 2010 British Open. Nice DraftKings value.
Matt Kuchar50007900Has made the cut in nine consecutive majors and 19 out of his last 21, including a T27 at the 2010 British Open.
Tiger Woods5,6008600He finished T23 at St. Andrews in 2010 and won there in 2005 and 2000. He is a mortal lock to make the cut. Much better play on DraftKings.
Henrik Stenson5,90010200He has made the cut in 13 consecutive majors, a run that doesn't even include his T3 at St. Andrews in 2010 and T34 in 2005.
Paul Casey53009200Casey finished T3 at the 2010 British Open, and he has four top-10s in his last eight tournaments including a T6 at The Masters.
Brooks Koepka49508200How about this resume: T9 at the 2014 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, T22 at the Scottish Open, T18 at the U.S. Open, T33 at The Masters.
Tommy Fleetwood49007300Like Oosthuizen, Fleetwood shot a 62 at St. Andrews in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Bargain on DraftKings.
Lee Westwood48508000Runner-up in 2010 and has made the cut in both majors so far this season.
Dustin Johnson7,00011400T14 at the 2010 British Open, T2 at the U.S. Open and T6 at The Masters.
Louis Oosthuizen5,8509900Won the British Open in 2010 and finished T2 at the U.S. Open. He also shot a course-record 62 on The Old Course in the third round of the 2014 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
