Underdog MLB Top Plays May 9: Brandon Woodruff Racks Up K's

Brandon Woodruff OVER 6.5 Strikeouts
Woodruff has had an up-and-down season, but he is still an elite right-handed pitcher in a plus matchup tonight against the Reds. He is 3-1 on the season with an 11.47 K/9 rate and he dominated this same Reds offense just six days ago – striking out 12 batters in 5.2 innings.
The Reds have a 26.4% strikeout rate against right-handers, which ranks 29th in the league this season. They also have only one current regular hitter striking out less than 20% of the time (Kyle Farmer). Take the over tonight on Woodruff’s K prop.
Jesús Aguilar OVER 1.5 Total Bases
Aguilar is on fire right now. Over the last seven days, he has three doubles and two home runs and is slashing .367/.367/.667 with a 1.033 OPS. Those numbers are not a fluke because going back to April 21st, Aguilar is 20-for-55 (.363).
Tonight he gets a matchup against right-hander Humberto Castellanos, who has a 4.12 ERA and only a 5.49 K/9 this season. Aguilar has reverse splits with a .201 ISO, .342wOBA, 43.9% flyball rate, and 43.9% hard contact rate vs. righties since 2021. Take the OVER on Aguilar against a low-strikeout pitcher and bad Arizona bullpen.
