This is it. Championship week. Unless you are one of those yahoos who plays Week 17. One touchdown can be the difference between championship and a runner-up participation trophy. Even this late in the season, NFL offenses are still evolving. Meanwhile, some new quarterbacks are shaping new fantasy stars and possibly reviving ones we’ve left for dead.

Here’s the Red Zone recap:

TARGET MONSTERS:

In what was an overall disappointing offensive week in fantasy terms, only three players made it to three red zone targets last week. The previous week, nine players had three or more red zone targets just to put the disappointment into perspective. Rest assured, with the Steelers and Saints back at home and the Colts/Raiders shaping up to be a shootout, things will turn around in Week 16.

Of the top three, only Michael Thomas had multiple receptions (2) and a score. Cameron Meredith and Zach Ertz were active all over the field for their respective teams, but failed to convert more than just a single catch in three red zone targets. Ertz should be incredibly useful this Thursday against the Giants who tend to get exploited by the TE. Meredith’s performance was deja vu for fantasy owners and Matt Barkley should be able to utilize him again versus the Redskins. As far as Thomas goes, in PPR leagues he’s the most desirable receiver in New Orleans.

MOST EFFICIENCT:

Five players went two for two in the red zone with a touchdown last week. Charles Clay had his second consecutive useful fantasy output, but he can’t be counted on unless you’re entirely desperate in season long leagues. Travaris Cadet is just another in a long line of Saints who will explode one week only to disappear into the ether shortly after so don’t chase last week. Luke Wilson is a one off as well. J.J. Nelson has had some moments in 2016, but in Seattle this week I wouldn’t expect him to excel. Doug Baldwin at home has the best chance of these five guys to score again at home against the Cardinals who look like they’ve already packed it in for the season.

With Vance McDonald done for the year, Colin Kaepernick is really hard up for someone to throw the ball to, hence Rod Streater’s touchdown. Sterling Shepard was also 1-for-1 with a touchdown for the Giants and should continue to see sporadic productivity while defenses double team Odell Beckham Jr. (who coincidentally was also 1-for-1 with a touchdown in the red zone). Taylor Gabriel made the most of his lone red zone target with a touchdown, but with Julio Jones looming Gabirel may be headed back into fantasy moth balls for the winter.

ONES TO WATCH:

In case you aren’t paying attention, the Colts are starting to roll offensively and that means T.Y. Hilton may be the best bargain of all the front line wide receivers in DFS this week. In that same contest, Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree are both sexy targets as well. DeAndre Hopkins had 17 targets last week and with Tom Savage now under center, he may finally have a chance to deliver at least one relevant fantasy week before season’s end. The price and volume are right! The Jets secondary didn’t have an answer for Malcolm Mitchell in the red zone last time they faced each other (two touchdowns) and they still won’t in Week 16. With Darius Slay out for the Lions, Dez Bryant should have plenty of opportunities in the red zone Monday night. Against the Browns, Antonio Gates and Hunter Henry should both be viable red zone targets, with the slight edge to Henry in that department.
