In a marquee match-up on ESPN, the NC Dinos outscored Doosan recording its sixth straight win. Both pitchers lasted less than four innings putting the heavy lifting on both bullpens. This could be a factor in this series between the top two teams in the KBO standings. Amidst the two best records facing off, Hanwha turned over its roster and suffered its 15th straight loss:

Samsung could get a boost in their bullpen with the return of a KBO legend getting in work on Tuesday as well:

Oh spent time in the majors as well notching 42 career saves pitching for Toronto, Colorado, and the Cardinals the previous four seasons. Now for the top performances from Tuesday’s slate in the KBO covered daily in the Round Up.

Starting Pitcher Spotlight

During a no-decision, Casey Kelly recorded a quality start working seven innings giving up four hits, one earned run, and two walks with four strikeouts. He reduced his ERA to 5.06 and WHIP to 1.38 with a 27:11 K:BB through his first 32 innings this season.

Kia’s Hyun-jong Yang garnered his fifth win but only lasted five innings allowing five hits, one earned run, and two walks with four strikeouts on 103 pitches. Yang has won five of his last six decisions with a 3.89 ERA in 2020.

Adrian Sampson notched his first win of the year for Lotte working 6.2 innings yielding nine hits, three earned runs, and two walks with three strikeouts. Sampson faced a weakened Hanwha lineup and still did not induce many swings and misses. This will need to be monitored going forward if using Sampson in DFS play.

Hitter Highlights

NC Dinos

Defending batting champ Eui-Ji Yang paced the surging Dinos offense hitting his fifth home run among his two hits driving in five runs and his home run cleared an ode to NC’s American counterparts from adopted fans in Durham:

This marks the second time over Yang’s last four starts he’s homered and driven in five runs in the same game. His average rose to .310 after the game and Yang’s up to 28 RBI, tied for fifth in the KBO. His teammates also chipped in during the Dinos 12-8 win:

  • Myung-gi Lee (OF) - Went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Lee’s on a six-game hit streak with multiple runs and hits in his last two.

  • Sung-bun Na (OF) - Moved into the KBO lead in runs (29) scoring twice during a 2-for-5 day with a double and an RBI.

  • Jin-sung Kang (1B) - Drove in two more runs pushing his season total to 29 RBI in only 27 games played. Kang also leads the KBO in batting average (.458) and on-base percentage (.515) through his first 98 plate appearances.

  • Aaron Altherr (OF) - Anchored at eighth in the lineup, Altherr works as a second cleanup hitter in a deep NC lineup. He finished 1-for-3 with a double, three RBI and walked. Altherr is now second in the league in RBI (30) and on a six game hit streak with 10 runs, three home runs and 11 RBI in it.

Doosan Bears

  • Kun-woo Park (OF) - Racked up three hits in four at-bats with two runs, a double, and an RBI while also reaching via a hit-by-pitch. Park’s on an eight-game hit streak with a .412 average in it.

  • Jose Miguel Fernandez (DH) - Reached base twice going 1-for-4 with a run, RBI and a walk. He’s still hitting .411 on the season.

  • Jae-hwan Kim (OF) - Boom or bust outfielder Kim launched his seventh home run driving in two going 1-for-5 on Tuesday.

  • Joo-hwan Choi (2B) - Recorded three hits in five at-bats with a run, double and two RBI.

Lotte Giants

  • Ah-seop Son (OF) - Tallied three hits in five at-bats with a run, double and an RBI.

  • Chi-hong An (2B) - Went 2-for-5 with two runs and a double.

  • Dae-Ho Lee (1B) - Blasted his fourth home run during a 2-for-4 contest with two runs and two RBI. He’s homered in two of his last four games with six RBI in them.

  • Yoon-suk Oh (3B) - Extended his hit streak to five going 3-for-4 with two runs, a double and an RBI. With a dearth of third base options in DFS, perhaps Oh should get more attention.

  • Joon-tae Kim (C) - Tripled, scored a run and drove in two during a 2-for-4 game.

  • Dixon Machado (SS) - Recorded a multiple hit game going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Hanwha Eagles

  • Jared Hoying (OF) - Perhaps the only usable piece of this team in DFS, Hoying hit his fourth home run in his team’s 15th straight loss.

Kia Tigers

  • Sun-bin Kim (2B) - Doubled in two runs in a 1-for-3 day for the Tigers.

  • Hyung-woo Choi (DH) - Moved his hit streak to 10 going 2-for-4 including a double, his sixth home and one RBI. Perhaps Choi’s heating up with the streak and four home runs in it.

Kiwoom Heroes

  • Ha-seong Kim (SS) - Extended his personal hit streak to nine games going 1-for-4 with a walk.

  • Jung-hoo Lee (OF) - Not to be outdone, Lee’s hit streak reached 12 games during a 4-for-5 game with two runs and a double. During his streak, Lee has hit four doubles and one home run as his power continues to emerge this season.

  • Dong-won Park (C) - Racked up two hits in three at-bats with a run and walked twice.

  • Byung-woo Jeon (3B) - Drove in four runs with a double and his second home run in four at-bats plus walked in Kiwoom’s win over Samsung.

Samsung Lions

  • Sang-su Kim (2B) - Scored two runs during a 1-for-3 game with an RBI, a walk and stole his third base.

  • Ja-wook Koo (DH) - Returned to the lineup hitting third going 2-for-5 with a double.

  • Tyler Saladino (OF) - Drove in two runs on one hit in five at-bats and stole his first base of the season.

  • Hae-min Park (OF) - Recorded a perfect day at the dish going 2-for-2 with a run, walked and stole his third base.

SK Wyverns

Not only did Jamie Romak tally three hits driving in three runs in a Wyverns victory, he also left the yard (literally):

Romak finished 3-for-4 with two runs, a double, and a walk. Teammate Jeong Choi went 2-for-4 with a run, double, an RBI and a walk.

LG Twins

  • Hyun-Soo Kim (OF) - Homered for the second straight game during a 3-for-5 day with two rBI and a walk. Kim’s not hit three homers this year.

  • Roberto Ramos (1B) - Reached three times with a single and two walks in four plate appearances but left the game prior to extra-innings.

Looking ahead to Wednesday’s slate, the KBO also provided an updated standings chart:

Vying for its seventh straight win, NC will send Drew Rucinski to the mound opposed by Doosan’s Raul Alcantara in the featured ESPN match-up. Kiwoom’s Eric Jokisch will try to record his sixth win of 2020 in Samsung, and Aaron Brooks tries for his third win facing the KT Wiz on the road. Baek-ho Kang returned to the lineup for the Wiz going hitless in two at-bats while drawing two walks.
