Zack Godley has been great for the D’backs with a 1.90 ERA over 23.2 innings. Sounds like his big league season might be over though after he was sent to Double-A Monday. Ostensibly the team wants to protect his arm. Last season he threw 55.1 innings and he’s blown past that mark this season with 99.1 innings tossed.

J.J. Hardy has been placed on the DL with a groin injury. An MRI suggested that there’s nothing horribly wrong and that a return to action on September 8th, the first day he’s eligible, is possible. Hardy was hitting .222 with a .568 OPS in what has been a dreadful 93 games of action. Hardy has also completely lose the ability to drive a baseball with a total of 16 homers his last 234 games. He hit at least 22 homers each season from 2011-13. Pathetic. Ryan Flaherty will see the majority of work at short for those of you in AL-only leagues.

Greg Holland likely won’t be able to pitch Monday as his pitching arm is “cranky” according to manager Ned Yost. No idea on earth that is supposed to mean though the suggestion was that he wasn’t going to be shut down. It does mean that Wade Davis’ value continues to climb as he’s the man called on when Holland is unavailable.

Jose Iglesias update. He’s still hitting .306 which is impressive. That’s it. He’s got two homers, 22 RBIs and 40 runs scored. All are awful numbers for a guy who has plate appearances. He’s also a mere 11-for-18 stealing bags, a dreadful 61 percent, and he has only one steal in 32 contests.

Would you eat this? I mean, would anyone?

Denard Span should return from his back issue Tuesday after going 7-for-17 on a rehab assignment at High-A ball. Span last suited up on July 6th and left the Nationals hitting .304 with a .367 OBP and .430 SLG. Given that he has no power a back issue is a concern for the speedy outfielder who has 11 steals in 59 games. He’s a 5th outfielder type in mixed leagues at the moment.

Last week Josh Hamilton was placed on the DL and the Rangers made a move to add Will Venable. Monday they continued to bolster their organizational depth in the outfield by signing Drew Stubbs to a minor league contract. Stubbs will report to Triple-A but could see plenty of work in September if Hamilton can’t get healthy. Don’t forget Stubbs is a mere season removed from going 15/20 in just 388 at-bats.

Mark Teixeira remains out of the Yankees lineup with a shin issue (he last played a week ago). He did take BP Monday and word is that he could be available to pinch-hit. Tex has been fantastic this season with 31 homer and 79 RBIs. The last time he reached both of those numbers was 2011.

For those of you, like me, who are Star Wars nerds.

Kolten Wong is sitting out a third straight game Monday for the Cardinals. He’s not believed to be messed up physically, but he certainly is messed up in terms of his production. Over his last 33 games Wong is batting .198 with a .520 OPS as his season numbers have dropped precipitously to pedestrian levels (.256/.319/.383).

David Wright (back) is back out there for the Mets. The last time he appeared on a big league diamond was mid-April, and his contributions the rest of the way are totally up in the air.

Christian Yelich (knee) hopes to return to action Tuesday. Since the start of June Christian has hit .305 with a .375 OBP over 249 plate appearances as he’s returned to being the player everyone thought he would be after a dreadful first two months.
