Playing out of the early wave and beginning off No. 10 tee, World No. 52 Si Woo Kim withdrew from the Arnold Palmer Invitational after a birdie-less 8-over-par 39-41=80 in the first round.

At press time, no reason has been furnished. This is the 25-year-old's ninth mid-tourney WD in 169 events, first since last season's American Express after a 15-over 87 in R1 on the Nicklaus Tournament Course, citing a back injury. Oddly enough, he went on to win the AmEx five starts ago as a 54-hole tri-leader for his third TOUR title after rounds of 66-68-67-64. Look for the South Korean to be back next week at TPC Sawgrass as the 2017 PLAYERS champion. As for this week, this was his sixth API, missing his last three cuts, with a best of T49 in 2017. On six (of 14) fairways and seven greens in regulation, he lost 1.292 strokes off-the-tee, 3.242 approaching and posted a -5.715 SG: Tee-to-Green. Kim squared eight bogeys at 11, 14-17, 1, 6 and 7, posting a dismal 2.143 putts per GIR and -1.122 SG: Putting with 31 total putts, including a par-save at his final hole from 15'7". He was in 120th-place (of 123) at the end of R1, and his departure leaves Jim Herman and Austin Cook as a 2-ball on Friday.

Playing out of the late wave and beginning off No. 10 tee, World No. 152 Keegan Bradley handed in a 3-under-par 35-34=69 after the first round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, good for T7 on the leaderboard, three short of pace-setters Rory McIlroy and Corey Conners.

This is the 34-year-old's 10th appearance with two previous top 25s, both doubling as top 10s. He finished T3 in his second visit in 2013, where he was T72 after 18 holes (74-69-66-71), and chased with solo 2nd in 2014, where he was T40 after 18 holes (71-67-66-72). The South Florida resident arrived 6-for-12 on the season with three top 25s and one top 10, a T4 at the Sanderson Farms 10 starts ago as the 36-hole leader by two (66-65-73-69). On eight (of 14) fairways and 11 greens in regulation, he lost 0.705 strokes off-the-tee but gained 0.707 approaching and 1.601 around-the-green. The St. Johns alum squared two bogey-5s at 11 (3-putt from 56'7") and 8 (bogey-save from 8'6"), offset by five circles at 12, 13, 16, 3 (hole-out from 43'9" away) and 5, four conventionally from inside of 10 feet. He posted 1.727 putts per GIR and 2.560 SG: Putting with 25 total putts, including two par-savers from between nine and 14 feet. This is the fourth time this season that Bradley's been in the top 10 after 18 holes with the aforementioned Sanderson Farms the only one resulting in a top-10 finish.

Playing out of the late wave and beginning off No. 10 tee, World No. 17 Sungjae Im signed for a 3-under-par 35-34=69 after the first round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, good for an eight-way T7, three back of co-leaders Rory McIlroy and Corey Conners.

This is the South Korean's third API after T3 on debut in 2019 (71-69-71-68), and a solo 3rd last year on 2-under 286, where he was T19 after 18 holes (70-69-74-73). He arrived 13-for-14 on the season with six top 25s and two top 10s, and off a T28 at last week's WGC-Workday on 5-under 283, where he was T7 after 18 holes (68-74-69-72). On nine (of 14) fairways and nine greens in regulation, the 22-year-old lost 0.181 strokes around-the-green but gained 1.188 off-the-tee and 0.354 on approach. He squared a lone bogey-5 at hole 3 (failed scramble), offset by an eagle-3 at 16 from 8'10", and two birdies at 4 and 7, both from between 17 and 23 feet. Im recorded 1.667 putts per GIR and 2.802 SG: Putting with 24 total putts, buoyed by two par-savers on his final two holes from between nine and 15 feet.

Playing out of the late wave, World No. 13 Viktor Hovland carded a 3-under-par 35-34=69 in the first round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, good for T7 on the board, three in arrears of co-leaders Rory McIroy and Corey Conners.

This is the 23-year-old's third API after a T42 last year (74-73-72-77), and a T40 in 2019 as an amateur (74-70-73-70), in that field as the 2018 U.S. Amateur champion. He arrived 9-for-9 on the season with seven top 25s and four top 10s, three consecutive, with all four doubling as top 5s. On five (of 14) fairways and 11 greens in regulation, the Oklahoma State product gained 0.874 strokes off-the-tee, 0.308 approaching and 1.650 around-the-green. He squared two bogeys at holes 5 and 7 (failed scrambles), outpaced by five circles at 2 (hole-out from 38'7" away), 3, 6, 12 and 16, including three birdie-4s. The Norwegian registered 1.727 putts per GIR and 1.331 SG: Putting, converting two scoring chances from between 17 and 22 feet. "Got off to a nice start, birdieing Nos. 2 and 3. Those are pretty tough holes. Just kind of hung on from there. Like even the gettable holes are just, you still got to put in in the fairway and you got to wedge it close, So, I was just able to kind of not give too much away. I made the putts that I needed to make and when I was in trouble, I got out of there pretty nicely." This is Hovland's second time this season in the top 10 after 18 holes, joining the Mayakoba five starts ago, where he was T5 (two back) and went on to claim his second TOUR victory by one (67-69-63-65).

Playing out of the late wave, World No. 16 Matthew Fitzpatrick fashioned a 3-under-par 34-35=69 in the first round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational to sit T7 on the leaderboard, three adrift of pace-setters Rory McIlroy and Corey Conners.

This is the 26-year-old's seventh API with three prior top 25s and two top 10s, two consecutive. Last year, he back doored a T9 with a day-low 69, the only lap sub-70 lap in a challenging finale (70-75-75-69), and preceded that in 2019 with a solo 2nd as the 54-hole leader by one (70-70-67-71), two short of champion Franceso Molinari (64). The Englishman checked in this week 5-for-7 on the season with three top 25s, two straight, a T11 at last week's WGC-Workday as an 18-hole co-leader, and a season-best T5 at the Genesis, where he was T2 after 18 holes (66-71-69-71). On seven (of 14) fairways and 15 greens in regulation, he lost 0.472 strokes around-the-green but gained 1.147 off-the-tee and 2.183 on approach. The Northwestern product squared a lone bogey-4 at 14 (failed sand save), camouflaged by four birdies, including three birdie-4s. He posted 1.800 putts per GIR and 1.305 SG: Putting, converting three scoring tries from between 13 and 17 feet. "To be honest, I took a lot of confidence from the end of the year, winning in Dubai. I said a couple weeks ago, just sort of really feeling comfortable with where my swing's at. Obviously that can change overnight, but keep working on it away from tournaments and in practive and hopefuuly just keep the consistency going."

Playing out of the late wave, World No. 39 Lee Westwood smoothed a bogey-free 3-under-par 36-33=69 in the first round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, good for T7 on the board, three back of co-leaders Rory McIlroy and Corey Conners.

The 47-year-old was one of only two players (of 123 total) to navigate Bay Hill bogey-free on Day 1, joining 24-year-old first-timer Doug Ghim (71). He landed nine (of 14) fairways and 12 greens in regulation, posting 1.414 SG: Off-the-Tee, 1.547 SG: Approach, 1.456 SG: Around, and 4.417 SG: Tee-to-Green. The reigning Race to Dubai champion penciled three birdies at 10 (chip-in from 22'10" away), 12 and 13, the latter two conventionally from 6'8" and 6'11", respectively. He recorded a pedestrian 1.917 putts per GIR and -0.254 SG: Putting with 28 total putts, lowlighted by a 3-putt par at the par-5 sixth from 45'0". This is the Englishman's 14th API with six previous top 25s, most recently a T17 four tries ago in 2008, where he was T3 after 18 and 36 holes (66-68-72-72). He arrived 3-for-5 on the season with one top 25, a T13 at the U.S. Open in his season-opener (67-76-72-72), and off a T61 at last week's WGC-Workday on 8-over 296 (74-69-77-76). "Yeah, last week was a bit of an eye opener. I haven't played on a golf course with that kind of severity of greens for quite some time. And I struggled a little bit, I struggled mentally, really, to come to terms with some good shots finishing some 30 yards from the green. And I let it get the better of me."

This is the Colombian's second appearance after a missed cut by two last year on 5-over 149 (75-74). He checked in 10-for-13 on the season with six top 25s, including at last week's WGC-Workday (T22), and one top 10, a solo 9th 10 starts ago at THE CJ CUP @ SHADOW CREEK (71-70-67-69). On 10 (of 14) fairways and 14 greens in regulation, the North Texas alum did most of his damage off-the-tee (+2.133) and on approach (+2.151), and eked out a 0.092 around-the-green. He squared a lone bogey 4 at 14 (failed scramble), outflanked by five birdies at 13, 16, 3, 6 and 9, highlighted by a 3 at 9 from 28'5". The 28-year-old registered 1.714 putts per GIR and 0.776 SG: Putting with 29 total putts. "I played great golf. Yesterday I wasn't hitting the ball that good and my coach was over here. We didn't really find anything, and just the change of day, a change of rhythm a little bit and stroked it very nice today. Really pleased with the way I hit the ball and it was so nice to go away with that 3 at the end."

This is the Orlando resident's seventh API with two prior top 25s and one top 10, a T10 two tries ago in 2019 where he was T49 after 18 holes (72-72-69-68). He arrived 6-for-11 on the season with one top 25, a T8 at the American Express four starts ago, where he was solo 2nd after 18 holes (65-73-67-69), and off a T35 at last week's opposite-field Puerto Rico Open on 7-under 281 (72-70-68-71). On nine (of 14) fairways and 14 greens in regulation, the South Korean posted 1.300 SG: Off-the-Tee, 2.881 SG: Approach, 0.689 SG: Around-the-Green, and 4.876 SG: Tee-to-Green. He squared two bogey-5s at 15 (3-putt from 41'0") and 18 (missed par-saver from 6'4"), outpaced by six circles at 12, 13, 16 and a hat-trick at 4-6. The 29-year-old recorded 1.714 putts per GIR and 0.289 SG: Putting with 29 total putts, converting two scoring chances from between 10 and 18 feet. "Yeah, I hit it good, putted good, made some birdies. Overall, I was happy that I didn't hit any balls in the water. I think that's a big thing here, there's some water out there that's in play, but I didn't lose any balls and I made some good birdie putts."
