The fact that anyone finished the U.S. Open under par is amazing but for Bryson DeChambeau to end his weekend at six under par is almost unthinkable.  I stressed the point that you had to hit fairways to have success and for everyone else that was true except for Bryson.  The dude just overpowered the course and everyone in the field to take home his first major championship.  He became the third player in history (Jack Nicklaus & Tiger Woods) to win an NCAA individual title, a U.S. Amateur title, and a U.S. Open.  It’s time to get back into the fall swing of the 2020-2021 PGA Tour season.

As I mentioned during my write up for the Safeway Open, you will not see the cream of the crop during the fall swing.  You may here a top tier talent here and there but overall you’ll see a lot of second tier players and rookies on tour tee it up.  That’s what you’ll get at this week’s Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship.  Your top priced player on the board is Korn Ferry Tour stud, Will Zalatoris sitting at $10,900.  Throughout the 10K and 9K salaries, you’ve got guys who would typically be in the 7K & 6K range.  While it must be nice to take a trip down to the Dominican, I’m sure a few of them would rather take a week or two off after the summer grind.

So, let’s take a look at the Corales Golf Club which is a basic stock par 72 that opened in 2010.  The course is long reaching nearly 7,700 yards, both the par 5s can stretch beyond 620 yards.  The last four winners of this event; Dominic Bozzelli, Nate Lashley, Brice Garnett and Graeme McDowell are all in the field this weekend.  Lashley has a lot of experience on this course having competed in at least one of the two editions that the Korn Ferry Tour hosted on this track. The greens are just about 11 feet on the Stimpmeter which doesn’t pose much of a challenge for these caliber players which means they can play aggressively.  The primary rough is cut to two inches but fairways are accommodating, so long hitters and tee-to-green tacticians both will have success on this course.

We love nicknames like the Bear Trap and the Snake Pit for a three hole stretch, well let me introduce you to “The Devil’s Elbow”.  While those other places are known for their difficulty, these three holes (16, 17, and 18) are known for giving players a chance to win down the stretch.

We should not have any weather concerns this week, it'll be partly cloudy with tempertures in the low 80s all weekend long. Winds will slightly pick up over the weekend to 10-12 mph.

KEY STATS TO TARGET: Ball Striking, Strokes Gained: Approach, Driving Distance, Par 3 200-225 Efficiency, and Par 5 Birdie or Better
