Playing out of the final threesome, World No. 130 Stewart Cink concocted a 5-under-par 33-32=65 in the third round of the Sony Open in Hawaii for a 54-hole total of 15-under 195, dipping two places to T4, three short of leader Brendan Steele (61).

This is the 47-year-old's second time in the top 10 at the three-quarter mark this season in eight starts. The first came at the season-opening Safeway, where he was T7 and two back, and wound up winning by two after a 7-under 65. That was his seventh TOUR win, first in 11 years, 2 months, in-a-then 596th career event. The Georgia Tech alum found eight (of 14) fairways and 12 greens in regulation, gaining 0.623 strokes around-the-green but losing 0.709 off-the-tee and 1.316 on approach. He opened with bogey-5 at hole 1 (errant tee shot) before playing his final 17 in bogey-free 6-under, circling 2, 3, 9, 14, 15 and 18. The Alabama native recorded 1.583 putts per GIR and 3.059 SG: Putting, converting two scoring attempts from between 17 and 21 feet, and also saving par three times from between seven and 10 feet. He'll play out of the third-to-last threesome on Sunday with Chris Kirk and Keith Mitchell.

Playing out of the penultimate threesome and in his final start on a Major Medical Extension, World No. 263 Chris Kirk pieced together a 5-under-par 31-34=65 in the third round of the Sony Open in Hawaii, dropping two places to T4 on 15-under 195, four back of leader Brendan Steele (61).

The 35-year-old needs a two-way T3 to satisfy the terms on his medical and is in position to do just that after his third consecutive 65. On eight (of 14) fairways and 12 greens in regulation, he gained 0.282 strokes off-the-tee and 0.385 around-the-green, but lost 0.773 on approach. The Georgia alum penciled seven birdies at holes 2, 3, 7, 9, 12, 14 and 18, giving two back with bogeys at 15 and 17. He posted 1.585 putts per GIR and 1.763 SG: Putting, converting two scoring chances from between 11 and 12 feet, and also saving par from 6'10" at the 13th. Kirk will play out of the third-to-last threesome on Sunday with Stewart Cink and fellow Bulldog Keith Mitchell. He's vying for his fifth TOUR win in 256 events, first since the 2015 Crowne Plaza Invitational 124 starts ago, where he came from three back (T4) with 4-under 66 to win by one.

Playing out of the final threesome, second-round leader and World No. 135 Nick Taylor labored to a 2-under-par 34-34=68 in the third round of the Sony Open in Hawaii, falling eight spots to T9 on 14-under 196, four back of leader Brendan Steele (61).

After kicking off with 66 and career-low 62, the 31-year-old began with a 2-shot lead over four players. He hit eight (of 14) fairways and 13 greens in regulation, gaining 0.624 strokes off-the-tee but losing 1.038 approaching and 0.491 around-the-green. The University of Washington alum squared two bogey-5s at 13 and 16, slightly outpaced by four circles at 9, 10, 12 and 15 (from 13'3"). He registered 1.769 putts per GIR and -0.438 SG: Putting with 29 total putts. The Canadian is still within reach of a third TOUR victory in 176 events, first since last season's wire-to-wire triumph at the AT&T Pebble Beach 16 starts ago as the 54-hole leader by one. This is his first time in the top 10 after 54 holes since that win.

Playing out of the penultimate threesome, past champ and World No. 58 Russell Henley walked off with an eagle to salvage a 5-under-par 33-32=65 in the third round of the Sony Open in Hawaii, dipping two spots to T4 on 15-under 195, three in arrears of 54-hole leader Brendan Steele (61).

The Georgia alum was the 36-hole leader and 54-hole co-leader when winning here on debut in 2013. At that edition, he closed with 7-under 63 to win by three in his third career start and first as a pro. He's subsequently slowed his winning ways dramatically, but has added two more in the win column, most recently the 2017 Shell Houston Open 91 starts ago, where he came from four back (solo 3rd) with 7-under 65 to win by three over 54-hole leader Sung Kang (72). On nine (of 14) fairways and 16 greens in regulation, the 31-year-old gained 0.545 strokes off-the-tee, 1.130 approaching and 0.558 around-the-green. He squared a lone bogey-5 at 10, offset by four birdies at 7, 9, 12 and 14, and a hole-out eagle-3 at 18 from a greenside bunker 31'7" away. Henley, who will play out of the penultimate threesome in the finale with Peter Malnati and Charley Hoffman, posted 1.688 putts per GIR and -0.576 SG: Putting.

After kicking off with 66-65, the 44-year-old began three back of leader Nick Taylor and is taking his score lower with each passing round. He landed 11 (of 14) fairways and 17 greens in regulation, gaining 2.040 strokes off-the-tee, 0.123 approaching and 0.667 around-the-green. The UNLV alum ticked four birdies at holes 2, 10, 14 and 18, two from between 16 and 35 feet, adding a 16'2" eagle at the ninth from the fringe. He recorded 1.647 putts per GIR and -0.173 SG: Putting, missing two birdie chances from inside of 10 feet and four from inside of 12 feet. The San Diego native is vying for his fifth TOUR win in 415 events, first since the 2016 Valero Texas Open 122 starts ago, where he came from two back (T3) with 3-under 69 to win by one over Patrick Reed. He'll play out of the penultimate threesome in R4 with Peter Malnati and past champ Russell Henley.

Playing out of the fourth-to-last threesome, first-round tri-leader and World No. 169 Peter Malnati crafted a 6-under-par 31-33=64 in the third round of the Sony Open in Hawaii to post 15-under 195, up three places to T4, three adrift of leader Brendan Steele (61).

This is the first time the 33-year-old has been in the top 10 after 54 holes since T7 at last season's Wyndham eight starts ago, where he was T7 before fading to T20 (68-65-64-70). He's eyeing his second TOUR victory in 163 events, first since the 2016 opposite-field Sanderson Farms where he came from one back (T3) with 5-under 67 to win by one. The Indiana native will play out of the penultimate threesome in R4 with Charley Hoffman and past champ Russell Henley. On 11 (of 14) fairways and 13 greens in regulation, he lost 0.135 strokes approaching but gained 0.117 off-the-tee and 0.412 around-the-green. The Missouri alum squared a lone bogey-4 at hole 4, outpaced by seven circles at 1-3, 7, 9, 14 and 18, four from between 10 and 19 feet. Playing out of the fourth-to-last threesome, first-round tri-leader and World No. 31 Joaquin Niemann painted a bogey-free 7-under-par 32-31=63 in the third round of the Sony Open in Hawaii to post 16-under 194, up five spots into a two-way T2, two short of leader Brendan Steele, who fired a week-tying-low 61.

This is the 22-year-old's second straight week inside the top 10 at the three-quarter pole. He was T7, five back at last week's Sentry TOC before closing with bogey-free 64 to match Harris English, and then in his first playoff appearance, lost on the first hole. The Chilean is chasing his second TOUR win in 74 events, first since last season's Greenbrier 30 starts ago as the 54-hole leader by two. After opening with career-tying-low 62 and 69, he began T7, three shy of leader Nick Taylor and found nine (of 14) fairways and 14 greens in regulation. The South Florida resident gained 0.532 strokes off-the-tee, 0.791 approaching and 0.306 around-the-green. On a day ripe for scoring, he was puttering along on 4-under through 16 and outside the top 10 on the leaderboard, but awoke to a birdie-eagle finish. In all, Niemann circled five birdies and a walk-off eagle-3 at 18 from 9'9", registering 1.643 putts per GIR and 2.028 SG: Putting. He'll play out of the final threesome on Sunday with Steele and Kevin Na (61).

Playing out of the fifth-to-last threesome, World No. 114 Brendan Steele painted a bogey-free, career-low 9-under-par 31-30=61 in the third round of the Sony Open in Hawaii for a 54-hole tally of 18-under 192, up six spots on the day and good for a two-shot lead over Kevin Na (61) and Joaquin Niemann (63).

This is the 37-year-old's sixth 54-hole lead/co-lead in 248 events, previously 1-for-5 converting and zero for his last four. His most recent prior to today was here last year, where he led by three and closed in 1-over 71 before losing in extra time to playing competitor and champion Cameron Smith (68). The UC-Riverside alum is vying for his fourth TOUR title, first since the 2018 Safeway 70 starts ago, where he came from two back (T3) with 3-under 69 to win by two. Today's 61 is a career low in 795 rounds, eclipsing a 62/R2 at last season's Travelers where he finished T6. After kicking off with 65-66, Steele began T7 on 9-under, three shy of leader Nick Taylor and striped 13 (of 14) fairways and hit 15 greens in regulation. He gained 0.854 strokes off-the-tee, 0.755 approaching and 0.697 around-the-green. The Californian rang up nine birdies at holes 1, 6, 8-10, 12, 15, 17 and 18, three conventionally from between 14 and 28 feet, adding a fringe-shot at 10 from 10'11". He posted 1.533 putts per GIR and 3.373 SG: Putting with 25 total putts. Steele will play out of the final threesome in R4 with Na and Niemann.
