The Genesis Open used to be known as the Northern Trust Open and it is played at the prestigious Riviera Golf and Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.  First of all, we are finally back to a one course event and a 36-hole cut line.  The course is a par 71 and it measures out 7,322 yards with poa annua greens.  The winning scores at Riviera have ranged from 7 under par to 19 under par which is a huge difference but it basically comes down to the final two Par 5’s.

The big bombers have an advantage because they can reach both of those par 5’s in two and go low.  This does not mean that the shorter course managers can’t have success on this track either.  The fairways are very narrow which makes it hard to hit them and that’s where the shorter more accurate players can take advantage.  One of the most important stats this weekend will be rough proximity.  This number basically tells us how good the player is at getting themselves from the rough on the green close to the hole.  The greens are also smaller than an average PGA Tour track.

I got excited when I first looked at the pricing on DraftKings for the Genesis.  The amount of playable options you have in the 7Ks, it gave me the warm and fuzzies.  That really gives you the flexibility to play around with your lineups and use different combinations of the top players and their crazy high price tags.

Oh and I can’t go without mentioning that it’s Tiger Week!  Yes, that’s right, it will be our second chance to see Tiger Woods tee it up this season and you know I’m pumped up.  He showed well a few weeks ago and I’m interested to see what kind of toll another week of pounding on his back will do.  He may make his way into my playbook this week as I’ve seen him tee it up once already and his price tag is lower than it was at the Farmers.

On a side note, thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Bill Haas.  Bill was involved in a terrible car accident on early Wednesday morning but the latest reports say it looks like he’ll pull through.

Good Luck Everyone
