UPDATED WEEKEND OPTIMALS AT 12:45AM ET

WOW!  What a way to kick off the FedEx Cup playoffs, it does not get any better than two of the best players in the world battling it out for 19 holes.  If you can’t enjoy golf after watching those Sunday performances, then this just isn’t for you.  Now, we’d just like something like this to happen in a major that people actually care about.

The FedEx Cup heads to Beantown for the Dell Technologies Championship which had been known as the Deutsche Bank Championship since 2003.  This tournament is special because it will start on Friday morning and end on Labor Day Monday, so you get an extra day to set those lineups.  This field will feature the Top 100 players in the FedEx Cup rankings.  We haven’t seen any major names get eliminated as of yet but next week the field shrinks to 70 for the BMW Championship which means players like Branden Grace (99), J.B. Holmes (88), Rafa Cabrera-Bello (80), Emiliano Grillo (77), Adam Scott (73), and Bubba Watson (72) would be out.  Brandt Snedeker (68), Ryan Moore (61), and Phil Mickelson (58) are all dancing on that fine line as well.

This will be the 15th straight year that TPC Boston will play host since the tournament’s inception on the Tour in 2003.  It is a Par 71 that measures out 7214 yards.  There are three Par 5's on this course and two of them are reachable with a driver and wedge for these pros. The third one is 600 yards but the big bombers can still reach it in two.  These guys must take advantage and if they aren't coming out six under or better, you're playing from behind.

Players need to get themselves into birdie making opportunities and you do that with good Shots Gained: Tee-to-Green (SGTG) numbers.  You'll notice a trend throughout my playbook.  We want ball strikers that will target pins throughout the weekend.  I generally lean more towards course history when making my selections but I feel like I've pushed myself more to an even 50/50 split when it comes to recent play.

Again, another warning that this tournament starts on Friday, September 1st and runs through Labor Day Monday.  After 36 holes, the low 70 players including ties will make the last cut of the 2016-17 season.
