The United States has a commanding lead heading into the Sunday solo matchups.  I think the U.S. wants to embarrass the Europeans the way they did to them in 2018 in France.  They are out for blood this weekend and I think they get it.  My prediction is a 20-8 beat down by the end of the day Sunday.  If you are interested in putting together a showdown lineup for the final day of the Ryder Cup, here are my favorite plays.

MVP/Captain

Dustin Johnson, G – He has been amazing during this Ryder Cup.  Other than Jon Rahm, he’s been better than everyone else in the field.  He’s 4-0-0 heading into a Sunday pairing against Paul Casey who has not won a match yet.  I’m not saying Casey isn’t capable of winning this match but I’m putting my money on DJ bringing this home for the Americans.

Tony Finau, G – While his loss on Friday afternoon on the 18th hole against Shane Lowry and Tyrrell Hatton was disappointing, I still love him.  He has a great matchup on Sunday against Ian Poulter.  I know Poulter is Mr. Ryder Cup but Tony Finau is just superior in almost every way.  While Poulter is better with the putter, I just don’t think that’s enough to beat Finau on Sunday.

Brooks Koepka, G – Brooks has not been on his A game during this Ryder Cup with a record of 1-2-0 but he has flashed.  He gets Bernd Wiesberger in his Sunday matchup who is 0-2-0 in his Ryder Cup debut.  The cream will rise to the top in this matchup as no one is better on the biggest stages.

Mid-Tier

Xander Schauffele, G – He has been the absolute break-out star of the 2021 Ryder Cup.  I’m not saying that he wasn’t a star already but he proved that being a rookie is not a disadvantage.  Xander seems to like playing on the world stage as he is the reigning Olympic gold medalist.  He gets Rory McIlory on Sunday and while that’s a big hill to climb but I have no doubt that he is up for the challenge.

Collin Morikawa, G – This young superstar has lived up to the hype in his Ryder Cup debut.  I did not like the pairing when I first saw it but Morikawa and Dustin Johnson were a force during this event going 3-0-0 as a team.  This will be his first solo venture and he gets another star rookie Viktor Hovland.  Hovland has incredible ball striking skills but where these two differ is on and around the greens which is why Morikawa has two majors at the same age.

Bryson DeChambeau, G – I gotta say he’s impressed me.  After an awful debut at the 2018 Ryder Cup., he stepped up as leader and showed out.  The driver, the iron play and putter have all come together this weekend in Wisconsin. He faces the new European all time points leader in Sergio Garcia.  While the Ryder Cup legend has played great, Jon Rahm covered up a lot of flaws in his game and I think Bryson takes advantage.

Dart Throws

Daniel Berger, G – I think you all know how much I love Daniel Berger and his game.  I love him even more watching him shotgun a beer with Justin Thomas in front of the huge grandstands on the first tee.  He is one of those players without a real flaw in his game and I think he’ll be too much for Matthew Fitzpatrick.  Matthew has been less than impressive in his second Ryder Cup and while he could definitely win this match, I’m betting on the better player.

Harris English, Jr, G – I probably had too high expectations for him coming into this event but Harry still has a chance to end on a high note against Lee Westwood.  I’m betting on youth and form with this pick.  Westwood may have experience on his side but this will come down to ball striking and putting which English has the advantage.
