Below are stacks to consider for Wednesday’s MLB DFS action.

The Chalk

Coors Field

Let’s start with the always obvious Coors Field as the two teams in that game are two of the three teams with a projected run total over 5.5 runs per Vegas. The Diamondbacks are visiting the Rockies tonight with Shelby Miller on the mound for Arizona and German Marquez going for the Rockies, both being right-handed pitchers.

Miller has only made three starts this season, all of them coming recently. He has a 9.00 ERA, which obviously makes him look like a stack target, but his strikeout and walk rates have been good, so better things could be in his future. That said, that future may not start tonight in Colorado, and Miller will have to start generating more soft contact when he’s not missing bats. As for Marquez, he has struggled with a 5.22 ERA in his last five starts, though he’s like Miller in that his strikeout and walk rates are both better than average in that stretch. Nonetheless, his 7.93 ERA at home this season compared to 2.62 on the road doesn’t make you feel good about any positive regression he may have coming starting tonight.

For the Rox, their best hitter against righties is easily Charlie Blackmon , and he’s one of the chalkier plays of the night. The best guys to pair him with would be Nolan Arenado and Carlos González if they’re hitting close enough to Blackmon in the order. Chris Iannetta would also be good to include if he’s not too far removed in the lineup.

Despite being the underdog in the game, the D’Backs may be the better stack option as they have four hitters who have been safely above league average this season vs. RHP. Lefty David Peralta has been their best hitter against righties this season, followed by Paul Goldschmidt . Daniel Descalso isn’t far behind Goldy vs. RHP, so he’s a good option if he’s not too far down the lineup. Jon Jay tends to lead off against righties, so he’ll also work. Hopefully, some combo of those three guys are in close proximity in the order.

Boston Red Sox

The only other team with a projected run total over 5.5 runs is Boston who will host the Rangers and Bartolo Colón as a -370 favorite. Colon has a 5.83 ERA over his last five starts and has completely lost the ability to miss bats over that stretch with a strikeout rate of only 11 percent. Boston has the lowest strikeout rate in the league, so they figure to put a ton of balls in play today.

The Sox have a whopping five hitters who have all been at least 40 percent better than league average against right-handed pitching this season: Mookie Betts , J.D. Martínez , Andrew Benintendi , Xander Bogaerts and Mitch Moreland . Other than Moreland, they’ve all been hitting the ball well over the last 15 days. Get what exposure you can to them in cash games depending on your budget and positional needs.

Not the Chalk

St. Louis Cardinals

This really isn’t that contrarian given that the Cards are one of six teams with a projected run total over five tonight. But with the Coors game on the slate and Boston being such an obvious target, the Cards may not see super high ownership. They’re in a great spot against Carlos Rodon who has a 5.99 xFIP in his last five starts but a 4.40 ERA that indicates he’s been the benefit of some good fortune. Rodon also leans heavy to the fly ball end of the spectrum, so the Cards could hit a few out tonight.

St. Louis has seven hitters who have been better than average against left-handed pitching dating back to last season. This season Jedd Gyorko and Harrison Bader have been their best against lefties. Bader tends to lead off against lefties with Gyorko hitting fifth, so you could build the stack by filling in whoever hits between them. Last time they faced a lefty the three between them were Tommy Pham , Marcell Ozuna and Jose Martinez , all of whom have been above average against lefties this season.

Baltimore Orioles

This is a much more contrarian pick as the O’s have the second worst team wRC+ this season. However, they’ll face Sonny Gray who has the worst ERA of any of tonight’s probable starters in the last 30 days. Unstoppable force, meet immovable object.

We’re going to go with the O’s here because they at least have three hitters who are better than average against right-handed pitching, and they’re hitting consecutively in the order tonight: Adam Jones , Manny Machado and Mark Trumbo . Tim Beckham will lead off in front of that trio, and he’d also be good to include in the stack due to his success against Gray. In his career, Beckham is 7-for-16 against Gray with two home runs. If you’re feeling lucky, you could also include Chris Davis from the six-hole as he’s sort of getting it going with a five-game hit streak ongoing which includes two home runs.
