The 49ers will monitor the Lions' potential trade of Matthew Stafford.

It's not quite a shock that the Niners could enter the fray for Stafford's services. Jimmy Garoppolo, who has two years left on his deal and is slated to make a whopping $25.5 million next season, has been inconsistent -- and sometimes downright bad -- in four injury-riddled seasons with the Niners. With play makers like George Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk, and Deebo Samuel, Stafford could make Kyle Shanahan's offense a dangerous unit. The team could restructure Stafford's contract to reduce the cap hit if they're able to acquire him. Stafford, 32, is sure to have a handful of serious suitors in the coming weeks and months. He's due a $10 million roster bonus from the Lions on the fifth day of the 2021 league year in March.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero said the Lions and Matthew Stafford have agreed to part ways this offseason.

It appears the team won't fight to keep Stafford aboard for a full rebuild. Pelissero reports Stafford and the team made a mutual decision that the Lions would trade away their franchise QB this offseason after 12 seasons. QB-needy teams like the 49ers, Washington, Panthers, Colts, Jets, and Broncos will probably show interest in acquiring Stafford, though the Lions' price isn't known. Stafford has two years and $43 million left on his contract, "a bargain price for a quarterback who is still playing at a high level," Pelissero said. Stafford will be a marked upgrade for the pass catchers on whichever team he lands on this offseason. Detroit is (very) likely to use their No. 7 NFL draft pick to select Stafford's successor, and perhaps move up even further to secure one of the draft's top signal callers. The trade would likely happen before the fifth day of the 2021 league year in March, when Stafford is due a $10 million roster bonus.

The Eagles are considering Washington Football Team defensive backs coach Chris Harris for the team's open defensive coordinator position.

Harris, a longtime Bears safety before ending his career with the Jaguars, just finished his first year as Washington's defensive backs coach. The Football Team's secondary was a solid unit throughout the season, helped by the team's vicious defensive line. Harris has coached for the Bears and the Chargers, where he was credited with developing first-round pick Derwin James in one of the NFL's most dominant secondaries at the time. Harris would face the Football Team twice a season if he lands the Philadelphia gig.

Packers CB Tramon Williams was elevated to the team's active roster for Sunday's game against the Bucs.

The team moved Williams -- who signed with the Packers this week -- from the practice squad to the active roster as a COVID-19 replacement. They also released RB Dexter Williams from the practice squad. Williams, 37, played six games with Baltimore this season. It looks like he'll see the field Sunday in the NFC title game.

Bills WR Kenny Stills was elevated to the team's 53-man roster for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.

Stills will be active for the first time since Buffalo signed him to the team's practice squad on January 4. The Bills are struggling with wideout injuries, with Cole Beasley playing through a lingering knee injury and Gabriel Davis suffering an ankle injury in last week's win over Baltimore. Bringing Stills off the practice squad indicates one or both receivers will be out Sunday. Davis, who missed practice all week before practicing in a limited capacity on Friday, is considered questionable to face KC in the AFC Championship Game. Isaiah McKenzie and Stills would be in the mix Sunday if Davis or Beasley are inactive. Stills is an intriguing option in large-field single game DFS contests.

The Jets are Deshaun Watson's preferred trade partner.

The rightfully disgruntled franchise QB prefers the Jets "because they hired Robert Saleh to be their coach and Watson values Saleh so much he wanted the Texans to interview him for their vacant head coach job," according to the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero. The Dolphins, per Salguero, rank second on Watson's trade wish list. Recent reports out of Houston indicate it's a matter of when -- not if -- Watson is dealt away after the team's string of management mishaps that alienated the cornerstone of the franchise. Saleh has been complimentary of Sam Darnold, lauding the QB's "unbelievable arm talent," but has stopped short of naming him the Jets' 2021 starter. Darnold's shot at the starting gig would vanish the minute Watson is dealt to New York. Watson -- who has yet to officially request a trade -- would be a giant upgrade for all Jets pass catchers, including Jamison Crowder, Chris Herndon, and Denzel Mims,

ESPN's Jamison Hensley reports LB Matt Judon is seeking $20 million annually on his next contract.

Judon is a free agent for the second straight offseason after playing last year under the franchise tag. His sack numbers (6) were down in 2020, but he had a career-high 21 QB Hits and a safety in 14 games. Four of the Ravens' five outside linebackers are pending free agents, but re-signing Judon is the biggest priority. Judon will likely have to come off his $20M asking price to stay in Baltimore.

Julian Edelman (knee) is expected to play in 2021.

Edelman is signed through next year, but there's been talk he could retire after back-to-back injury-riddled seasons. At a $2.8 million base salary, the Patriots should be open to keeping him, even if Edelman can't be counted on as more than a No. 3 receiver. 34-year-old Edelman missed the final 10 games on IR with a knee injury but should be ready for the start of OTAs.
