Another full week of the NFL and another busy week in the red zone as teams continue to light up the scoreboard at a pretty efficient clip this season. In fact, last year through the whole season, there were 10 defenses that allowed opposing offenses to score in the red zone less than 51-percent of the time and this year, halfway through the year, or close to it, there are just four teams achieving that mark. With all that efficiency, let’s look at who had the best week’s inside the 20 for Week 7 shall we?

Red Zone Passing Attempts

Joe Burrow QB CIN - Burrow has put up 300-plus passing yards in his last handful of games but until this week hadn’t really done anything of note in the red zone. In Week 7 he posted 12 passing attempts, his most since Week 2 and they resulted in a couple of touchdowns and he also carried it three times inside the 20 one of which became a rushing touchdown as well. The Bengals haven’t done much in terms of winning this season, but Burrow is still showing why he was the top pick in the draft and he’s showing that even without winning days on the football field, there’s value here for fantasy.

Ben Roethlisberger QB PIT - Big Ben posted a season-high for red zone passing attempts with 11 in Week 11 which was four more than the last two weeks combined. Those 11 attempts resulted in two touchdowns and made the difference in the win against the Titans and he spread the ball around well though two targets still saw the bulk of the targets. With all of his weapons back healthy last week, it was once again hard to stop the Steelers offense in the red zone as they possess a bevy of tough match-ups in the passing and rushing games.

Deshaun Watson QB HOU - Watson has been mostly overlooked this year at quarterback and it’s for a variety of reasons but it could also be because this was the first week that he registered double-digit passing attempts in the red zone. The previous season-high was seven until hitting 11 in Week 11. Two of those went for scores and he also ran it twice inside the 20 as well. There’s really no doubt at the talent level that he possesses under center and the talent level that surrounds him on the outside in Will Fuller and Brandin Cooks and in the backfield as well but it’s been a struggle to put it all together. He will certainly need more weeks like Week 7 to keep raising his value in the fantasy realm.

Tom Brady QB TB - Brady is coming off another four touchdown game but this one was a season-high in red zone passing attempts with nine. He’s shown the ability to continue to get the ball to a variety of targets and now Antonio Brown is getting added to the fold going forward. If he has a healthy Mike Evans , Chris Godwin , Antonio Brown , Rob Gronkowski , Ronald Jones , Leonard Fournette , and Scotty Miller that’s a tough group of weapons to stop so expect him to continue to be as effective inside the 20 as we’ve become accustomed to seeing him be.

Red Zone Rushing Attempts

Todd Gurley RB ATL - Gurley’s day got attention for scoring a touchdown too easily that led to a Detroit comeback but what was lost was the great day Gurley had. He had eight carries in the red zone and two scores and he currently leads the NFL in red zone carries at 38 and is one of only two backs topping 30 at this point in the season. While there is still concern about the overall effectiveness of the Atlanta offense and running game, it’s clear that he is getting the work where it matters most and he’s turned that into seven touchdowns which is almost the most in the league. He is an RB1 each week at this point.

Jamaal Williams RB GB - With the news that Aaron Jones wasn’t playing and a tasty match-up against the Texans, it shouldn’t be a shock to see Williams make the report, though it’s still nice to see that he lived up to expectations. He toted the rock five times and scored once in the course of having a pretty solid day on the ground. The five carries also bring him to within four on the season of Aaron Jones ’ total of 15 so even when Jones is playing, Williams is still seeing some work as well. Jones is out again in Week 8 and Williams should be a viable option but once Jones returns, Williams is likely back to handcuff status.

La’Mical Perine RB NYJ - Look sometimes a player is going to make the red zone report simply because he's the best option from a team and that's the case here with Perine. The Jets cast Bell away and have started to use Perine as the lead back as he got 40 snaps to Gore’s 16 in Week 7 and with those snaps came three red zone carries and a score. He may not be putting up walloping fantasy numbers, but there are solid numbers here and if the Jets just continue to see what they have in their young running back, that should make him have some fantasy value going forward as they likely try and run out the clock on the rest of their games.

Jeff Wilson RB SF - The San Francisco backfield is a bit of a mess and a hodgepodge at the moment. Everyone thought it would be Jerick McKinnon getting work on Sunday but it turns out that load management is a thing in the NFL and San Fran was doing just that with him on Sunday. Wilson on the other hand, was the beneficiary of that lack of McKinnon as he saw five carries inside the 20 and three of them turned into scores. That is likely the best game of the season for him, but it is something to flashback to going forward if we hear that McKinnon or someone else will be load managing in a future match-up.

Red Zone Receiving Targets

Tyler Boyd WR CIN - With Burrow dishing it around 12 times inside the 20, he had to throw it somewhere and that somewhere was to Boyd, seven times. He caught five of them including one for a score. His showing in Week 7 moves him to fourth in the NFL in targets with nine only behind Jimmy Graham , Travis Kelce , and Calvin Ridley for total red zone targets and it really leaves no doubt as to who the top target is in Cincinnati on the outside. Now they face the Titans who have had a soft pass defense much of the year.

Dionte Johnson WR PIT - Johnson came back from his concussion and snagged four red zone targets while snagging three of them and two for scores. The debate heading into the game was whether Chase Claypool had done enough in Johnson’s absence to have a presence even with Johnson back but that wasn’t really the case in Week 7 as Claypool wasn’t really a factor in the offense overall and in fact, Johnson tied Eric Ebron for the most red zone targets on the team in the game. That being said, there are five receivers within two targets of the team lead indicating just how well Roethlisberger spreads the ball out, also how well they cover for injuries.

Harrison Bryant TE CLE - Bryant was the recipient of his most targets on the season because of the injury to Odell Beckham as well as the way Cincinnati covers the tight end position in general. Bryant saw four targets, catching two of them, both for scores for a career-day for him. Going forward we’re going to have to see how the Browns make up for Beckham’s loss as he’s still the most targeted weapon in the red zone but the confidence boost Bryant got might not be overlooked and he could be a sleeper for DFS tournaments.

Rob Gronkowski TE TB - Gronkowski is finally starting to look like the Gronk everyone thought the Buccaneers were getting when he came out of retirement. He saw three targets, a season-high, a caught one for a score. It doesn’t hurt that the other tight ends are injured at this point and so Gronkowski has play a role in the passing game but we will have to see what Antonio Brown does to Gronk’s burgeoning target share as the lone game Brown played in New England saw him catch seven passes.

Christian Kirk WR ARI - Kirk was on here a couple of weeks ago after seeing his first targets of the season and guess what he’s back after having another multi-target game. He saw three targets thrown his way and caught two of them, both for scores. He’s now the leading wideout on Arizona in terms of red zone targets and he becomes a bigger weapon the closer they get as all five of his targets on the year have come inside the five and he’s caught four of those, all for touchdowns. All other receiving threats on Arizona combined have five total touchdowns inside the 10 this year so Kirk is the main target that close.

Will Fuller WR HOU - Fuller, when healthy, is a big-time weapon and he showed that off with his best game of the season, red zone target wise, in Week 7. He had four targets, bringing his season-total to seven, and he caught one of those for a score. Fuller is the top target inside the 20 and the 10 in the passing game and for good reason as he’s the biggest target and has the best range of any weapon for Houston and as long as Watson and company keep playing as loosely as they are now, Fuller should be making up the fantasy value in spades.
