This weekend marks the last short track race for a while on the schedule. That doesn’t mean it’s your typical short track though. In some ways it is because of the recent trend (last eight races) of winners coming only from the top-five starting spots in the grid and the fact that only three drivers in the field have a PD of +6 or better in the last four races.  On the other hand though, it’s the fastest of the short tracks, as well as the longest at .75 miles, and it’s the widest. You will see some three- and four-wide racing tonight.

Laps led and fastest laps will be a key bonus tonight, just like other short tracks, and playing the pole sitter is okay to do in cash games given the style and history of the track. This week, like last week, has some serious fire-power towards the rear of the field with some poor qualifying efforts being made, that does not take those guys out of cash considerations considering their histories of performing well at the track. With the race being a night race, the temps will work in reverse from practice, meaning the temps toward the end of the second practice will be similar to the start of the race and by the end they will be close to the start of first practice’s temps and conditions.

Unlike Bristol and Martinsville, who have split pit roads, Richmond’s pit road is like all the other longer tracks, mainly due to the shape of the track. It is a D-shaped configuration with a perfectly straight backstretch of 850 feet, 200 feet more than Bristol, but a curved 1,269-foot long front straightaway that is also banked a eight degrees.

Lineups will lock at 6:30 pm ET tonight.

Good luck!
