We’re down to just three races left in the whole season, including Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas. This is the second race of the year at Kansas with the first one being back at the beginning of May. As things stack up, Kansas is one of the better tracks in the intermediate range for letting drivers decide their own fate with multiple grooves for racing and passing and it’s quite common to find multiple drivers having big position differential days at Kansas.

Tire Notes

Goodyear is bringing the same tires this week as they brought here in May as well as last year. They’ve also used some combo of these tire codes at Homestead, Michigan, and Las Vegas in the last few trips for each so there is familiarity with how they were and run and the teams have a notebook for strategy.

Strategy Notes

As is the case with most 1.5-mile tracks, we’re looking for laps led to have a role as well as big chunks of position differential to be key to scoring well on Sunday. Let’s be careful of counting on one driver leading a big chunks of laps though as only one driver has topped 100 laps three of the last five trips to the midwestern track. In each of those races though, two drivers topped 50 laps led. Nearly eight drivers a race have averaged double-digit position differential and over 12...that’s right 12...have averaged six or more spots a race in the last five as well.

Facts To Know

  • Five drivers in the field this week have four top 10s in the last five races here
  • Seven drivers in the field this week have a Driver Rating over 100 in that span as well
  • There are five drivers in the field this week with a Top-15 Rate over 90-percent in the last five races however three of those aren’t drivers with four or more top-10s in that same span.
  • Over the last five races here, 40-percent of the drivers to finish in the top-10 started outside the top-12; eight of those 20 drivers pulled that feat off in one week.
  • Six of the top-10 scoring starting spots come from spots P1-P11 in the starting grid.

The table below shows the number of drivers to reach each stat-type over the last five Texas races with Race 1 being the most recent.
