We are just one week away from Opening Day 2018 but there are still leagues that have yet to draft so let’s take a look at which players stocks are rising and falling as we head into the final week before the regular season.

Rising Stock

Tyson Ross SP, SD- Ross has appeared in just 13 games since 2016 due to injury but returns to San Diego and by all accounts is healthy and throwing well.  Over his last four appearances this spring Ross has posted a 2.08 ERA with a 0.92 WHIP while striking out seven over 13 innings.  Before his arm troubles in 2016 Ross had three strong seasons with the Padres, posting a 3.07 ERA, 3.13 FIP and a 9.2 K/9.  His strong spring has earned him a spot in the Padres rotation to begin the year and he should be on fantasy owner’s radar as a late round sleeper heading into the regular season.

Michael Conforto OF, NYM- Yes, Conforto is going to start the season on the DL and Mets GM Sandy Alderson has told reporters he is expecting a May 1st return, but it is hard to ignore the progress he has made this spring.  Conforto has been teeing off on minor league pitching during his rehab appearances which includes hitting two home runs on Wednesday and then hitting for the cycle on Thursday.  He is even going to make his Grapefruit League debut on Saturday which was something nobody was expecting from him this spring.  Barring any setbacks there are reports that Conforto could return in mid-April which is a big plus for his fantasy owners.  Conforto currently owns an ADP of 192 but that should be improving given his status and the fact that he hit 27 home runs over 109 games last season.  His current ADP would make him one of this year’s biggest draft steals if he can return to form.

Adam Eaton OF, WAS- Eaton appeared in just 23 games for the Nationals last season before a torn ACL ended his 2017 campaign.  Over those 23 games he hit .297 with 24 runs, two home runs, 13 RBI, three stolen bases and an .855 OPS as the leadoff hitter for Washington.  Eaton is fully recovered from his ACL surgery and is off to a solid start to his spring, hitting .500 (5-for-10) with two runs, one home run and two RBI.  He is going to be ready for Opening Day where he is expected to again be the leadoff hitter for the Nationals.  Eaton currently has an average ADP of 148 but if fully healthy should find himself putting up a stat line nearing 100 runs, 15 home runs, 15 stolen bases and a near .290 batting average.  That level of production should have him being drafted higher considering last season he had an average ADP nearly two rounds better.

Falling Stock

Justin Turner 3B, LAD- This is an obvious choice as Turner suffered a broken wrist on Monday that will have him miss the next six-to-nine weeks.  Those who drafted Turner already can take solace in the fact that his injury does not require surgery and thus he could return closer to the six-week mark than the nine-week mark according to some reports.  For those who have not yet drafted we see Turner’s draft stock tumble as he was once a third or fourth round pick, but the injury is certainly impacting that.  Turner was having a solid spring, hitting .333 with seven runs, two home runs and three RBI over 36 at bats.

Eric Thames OF, MIL- Thames was a popular sleeper pick heading into last season’s draft but this year he is a man without a starting gig as the Brewers revamped their outfield with acquisitions of Christian Yelich and Lorenzo Cain to go with Ryan BraunDomingo Santana and Keon Broxton.  At first base Thames is also in a potential platoon with Braun and Jesus Aguilar as well as Travis Shaw who can shift across the diamond if need be.  Thames started off last season on fire but quickly cooled off in the second half, hitting .246 with a .794 OPS after hitting .248 with an OPS of .936 before the All-Star break.  He is also struggling so far this spring, hitting just .182 with a .606 OPS while striking out in 36-percent of his at bats.

Jackie Bradley Jr. OF, BOS- The signing of J.D. Martinez has caused a logjam in the Boston outfield and it is looking like JBJ is going to be the odd man out.  Since Martinez signed his contract Andrew Benintendi has started to see playing time in center field in what seems like preparation for a Boston outfield that will have Martinez in left field, Benintendi in center field and Mookie Betts in right field against left-handed pitching and maybe even tough right-handed pitching as well.  JBJ is also not helping his own cause as he is hitting just .184 this spring.  JBJ offers gold glove defense for the Red Sox but he is also an incredibly streaky hitter which resulted in him seeing significant drops in production last season when compared to his breakout 2016 season.
