10-team leagues

Shin-Soo Choo , TEX OF (71% ownership), FAAB Bid - $15-16 - There honestly haven’t been many hitters hotter in the month of June than Choo has been. He’s slashed .343/.471/.629 in the month with a .462 wOBA. If you dive deeper into the numbers for Choo, he seems more comfortable hitting lead off. He’s slotted in first 36 times this year and 38 times in other parts of the lineu. In the leadoff hole, he’s managed a .935 OPS while notching an .800 OPS hitting second. He should be owned in all formats.

Zach Eflin , PHI SP (25% ownership), FAAB Bid - $11-13 - Eflin hasn’t lost a game since May, and has been pitching very well for quite a while. He’s struck out 20 batters over his last 16 innings spanning three starts. He had a 12.5-percent K-rate last season and has literally doubled that this season as it now sits at 24.6-percent in 2018. To be able to grab someone posting a K-rate this high with legit numbers backing him such as a 3.72 xFIP and 3.62 SIERA is something every fantasy team could use.

CC Sabathia , NYY SP (48% ownership), FAAB Bid - $11-13 - The entire month of June has been really good to Sabathia and I can’t believe he’s going to retire next year. He’s actually had two really good months with a bad month wedged in between. His track record tells us he’s going to have many more good months than bad, even at his advanced age and declined velocity. He hasn’t allowed more than three runs in any start this month

12-team leagues

Shane Bieber , CLE SP (22% ownership), FAAB Bid - $10-11 - After seven dominant innings on Friday in which he struck out a career-high nine opponents, it’s officially time to hop on the Bieber bandwagon if you haven’t already. I’m not sure the strikeouts are sustainable as his 10.80 K/9 through three starts is one strikeout per inning higher than he’s had at any minor league level. Bieber is a ground baller however, producing a 51-percent GB rate. The ground ball/strikeout one-two punch is a great quality to have and one I look for in my fantasy pitchers.

Iván Nova , PIT SP (15% ownership), FAAB Bid - $8 - Nova has been in a really nice groove of late allowing one earned run or less in three straight starts. Two of those have resulted in wins while striking out eight in two as well. The strikeouts have obviously played a factor in his recent success, but so has limiting the home run ball. He’s allowed 11 on the year but just one over his last three starts. His next start comes against a dreadful Mets offense too, so the run of really good pitching should continue.

Avisail García , CWS OF (22% ownership), FAAB Bid - $7-8 - Garcia has been back for two games and has a hit in both. Garcia didn’t have the best start to his season prior to hitting the disabled list, but this is a guy who hit .330 last season. He’s hit double-digit home runs, scored 50 or more runs and has driven in 50-plus runs for three consecutive seasons, so he’s a viable candidate in almost all fantasy formats when healthy.

15-team leagues

Chris Stratton , SFG SP (25% ownership), FAAB Bid - $6-7 - If you want someone who is going to contribute in the wins category, look no further. Stratton already has eight wins on the year placing him in a tie for third amongst all National League pitchers. He’s been pitching better of late as well, posting quality starts in four of his five June starts. Stratton has a 2.48 ERA and a 2.62 FIP and has really turned it around. He doesn’t really provide us with many strikeouts, so don’t expect much from him there if you do in fact pick him up.

Kole Calhoun , LAA OF (7% ownership), FAAB Bid - $2 - Since returning from the disabled list four games ago, Calhoun has already belted two homers and has at least one hit in three of them while also scoring four runs and stealing a base. Calhoun was dreadful before his stint on the DL but maybe the time off helped him get into a better headspace and ready to tackle the remainder of the year. Calhoun has had double-digit home runs in four straight seasons and there is no reason to think he can’t do that again. For right now, AL-only formats might be the only place I’d pick him up, but if I needed an OF4/5, I’d consider him in 15-teamers as well.

Jace Peterson , BAL 1B, 2B, 3B, OF (1% ownership), FAAB Bid - $1 - If you need a cheap source of steals, Peterson is your guy. He shouldn’t be owned in much more than 15-team leagues, but he’s shown us something lately. He has eight stolen bases on the year and just over the last seven days, he’s slashing .417/.462/1.083. He’s very versatile as he’s many position eligible and he has also been leading off, which will obviously help him in the runs category with Manny Machado , Adam Jones and the crew driving him in.
