We have a whopping 15 games on tonight's slate as every team in the big leagues is playing tonight. We have some elite arms, but a lot of arms we're looking to pick on too. Let's dive into my top hitters of the night!
Top Tier
Bryce Harper, OF PHI - It’s very hard to ignore what Harper has done against right-handed pitching this year and it’s doubly hard to ignore what he’s done against Nationals starter Eric Fedde. He’s 6-for-15 with FOUR home runs off of Fedde and he’s hit 13 HR versus righties and has a .401 wOBA to boot. Harper has hits in four straight and in nine of 10 overall, notching an OPS north of 1.000 over his last 10 games.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr., 1B TOR - The correlation between Guerrero Jr. versus right-handed pitching and Garrett Richards and right-handed hitters is too good to pass up. Guerrero has blasted 27 bombs off righties and has an insane .471 wOBA against them. Meanwhile, Garrett Richards has allowed a .307, .890 OPS, and .385 wOBA to righties. Match made in heaven? I think so.
Mid Tier
George Springer, OF TOR - As long as Springer’s priced the way he’s priced, I’m going to use him. This is a guy we could see upwards of 5K on a regular basis in this Jays lineup. Springer’s ability to hit for power and now that he’s leading off, score boatloads of runs, provides massive upside. He reached base another three times on Monday and has now put up double-figure fantasy points in five of his last seven games. I’ve already touched on how bad Garrett Richards is against right-handed pitching above.
Josh Donaldson, 3B MIN - Despite being on the trade block, or presumably so, Donaldson continues to hit. He draws a tasty match-up against a left-handed pitcher that struggles with righty swingers. Donaldson has posted a .379 wOBA against southpaws this season while Tyler Alexander has let righties bat over .300 off of him, while also notching an .860 OPSand .367 wOBA. Once Alexander is out of the game, the Tigers pen is exploitable too.
Joey Votto, 1B CIN - Left-handed hitters have been Alzolay’s weakness all season long and Votto comes into this game smokin’ hot, hitting .333 with an OPS just shy of 1.200 this year. Votto has homered in three straight, four times over his last six and 13 times against right-handed pitching. He has a robust .408 wOBA against right-handed pitching this year, while Alzolay’s allowed a .405 wOBA to LHH.
Value Tier
Pavin Smith, 1B/OF ARI - Smith has looked really good at the plate recently, hitting over .300 with an OPS north of 1.000. He has nine homers but really lives in the gaps as he has 20 doubles and three triples. He’s been solid against right-handed pitchers batting .282 with a .342 wOBA. On the flipside of this match-up, Dane Dunning has allowed left-handed hitters to bat .287 with a .336 wOBA.
Manuel Margot, OF TB - The price tag for Margot hitting out of the leadoff spot is quite good. He’s had success against Montgomery throughout his career going 4-for-12 with a home run. He’s hit left-handed pitching well too, notching a career .759 OPS, which is 90 points better than his career OPS versus righties. This is his return from the IL, but make no mistake about the match-up being ideal.
