What Else Can we Sho you?

I’ll just let Matt Vasgersian take it away…

Nester Cortes is the Best Pitcher you Don’t Know, but you Should

Nestor Cortes’ ERA is 1.05. Jacob deGrom’s is 1.08. I’m not going to make a claim at WHO the best pitcher in New York is, I’m going to just let the numbers do the talking. After all, numbers NEVER lie, right? Anyways, Cortes started for the Yankees on Friday -- only his second start of the year -- and fired 4.2 scoreless innings against the Astros. He has a 31% K-rate this season, opponents are batting .167 and he allows hard contact only 23.7% of the time. He’s throwing 15% fewer sliders than he did last year while throwing five percent more curves and 7.5% more change-ups. The change...up in his pitch selection has worked quite well. Get to know one of the more underrated arms in the league right now.

Charlie Morton Stock ALL the way UP!

Now look, technically, the Braves are in the thick of things but should they consider selling at the deadline? I think so. They have an injury-infested pitching staff and their bats haven’t been great all year. One pitcher that’s very healthy and looking fantastic right now is Charlie Morton. Morton fired off another seven scoreless on Friday and has now done so three times in five starts. After pitching to a 2.73 ERA with a 33:8 K:BB ratio in 29.2 June innings, Morton has started off July with a 2.92 ERA with a 14:4 K:BB over 12.1 innings. He’s 37 and not getting any younger and the Braves should not miss this opportunity to sell him now and get the biggest return they possibly can as the trade deadline fast approaches.

Heath Hembree is the Closer to OWN in Cincy (For now)

With Tejay Antone on the IL with a right forearm strain, Heath Hembree has been getting the call in the ninth inning of games and has been nails. He’s had five save opportunities in July already and has converted four of them. He’s allowed just one run over his last seven appearances and has notched 12 strikeouts and 6.1 IP over that seven-game span. Antone is projected to return after the break, but who knows if his elbow flares up again and forces him to miss more time. This is already his second stint of the year. It’s a very fluid situation right now, but the Reds and winning, playing in close games, and Hembree is getting the call.

We’re Going Streaking!

David Fletcher has the quietest 22-game hitting streak I’ve ever seen. Raise your hand if you knew it was 22 games? I don’t see (m)any hands! He extended it to 22 on Friday night going 3-for-5 while hitting his first home run of the year. The streak started on June 13th, guys! It’s literally almost been a month! During this stretch, he’s hit .427 with 10 XBH, 17 R, and 11 RBI. He leads off for Angels team that has Shohei Ohtani and soon Mike Trout hitting behind him. If you need AVG and R in your fantasy baseball league, look no further than Fletcher as a multi-position add.

Holy Sheets!

I know, I know..Eloy Jiménez is coming back soon, but Gavin Sheets is making it very hard for the White Sox to send him packing the minors. Sheets blasted his third home run of the year for CWS and now has an OPS of 1.011 through his first 10 games played. The 25-year old can play first baseman (appeared twice there) and the outfield (appeared four times there) so he soon should have multi-position eligibility in all fantasy formats. Cheap power that can play multiple positions isn’t the easiest to come by. Pounce now!

What’s Buzzing Today?

We have TWO baseball slates today, with the first one kicking off at 4:05 and the main slate starting at 7:15. The early slate features Lucas Gilolito trying to right the ship against the Orioles while the Red Sox offense faces off against old friend Matt Moore, who has pitched to a 5.60 ERA this season.

The main slate sees Gerrit Cole heading to Houston to right his wrongs while other ace’s such as Freddy Peralta and Walker Buehler toe the rubber for their respective teams. There is really nice value for pitching on the main slate as Kwang Hyun Kim and his 3.47 ERA is only $5.7K.

Oh, by the way, UFC264 is tonight. Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier III. McGregor won the first fight and six months ago Poirier sent McGregor to the land of wind and ghosts to even the series 1-1. It’s been a drama-filled week on social media, at the weigh-in and press conference between the two rivals.
